Dear Birth Parents, Our names are Doug and Colleen. We hope this Web profile will be a helpful introduction to ourselves and to our families.

First of all, thank you for making the decision to allow your child to be adopted. No matter what, he or she will know that it was motivated by love.

We have experienced adoption first hand in our own lives: Colleen and her two brothers are adopted, as are members of Colleen’s extended family. Like us, our families support adoption and have seen the love, joy, and excitement that children can bring! We are fortunate to have one son Colin who can’t wait to have a brother or sister.

Doug and Colleen We met while working for the same publishing company and pretty much knew right away we were destined to be together. Our first date was at a baseball game.

Colleen has two younger brothers who live nearby. Colleen’s parents also live nearby and the family often gets together at her parent’s river house.

After years as a journalist, Colleen now works as a freelance writer and editor, which allows her to work from home, spend time with Colin, and work in Colin’s preschool.

Colleen is a kind, intelligent, funny and nurturing person who loves to read, work in the yard (anything outside really!), travel, play sports, and try anything new. She always manages to make us see that we should enjoy each day and appreciate the little things in life.

Doug has one older brother and two older sisters. His parents and siblings live all over the country now, which is lucky for us. We have fun places to visit. Doug recently started his own Internet consulting business after spending many successful years in the publishing industry.

Doug is a funny, trustworthy, witty, smart and kind person with the ability to put anyone at ease. He loves sports, reading, music and traveling. Most of all, Doug has an enthusiasm for life that is contagious. He is always willing to lend an ear and reminds us that life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

Colin

Colin is our favorite four-year-old. He is smart, sensitive, strong, funny, gentle, curious and tons of fun. He loves playing outside with his friends, climbing trees, hiking, riding his bike or scooter, going to museums, reading books with Mom and Dad, and using his imagination.

About Us We love to travel and much of our trips are spent visiting family. Colin has been all over the country with us: Skiing and hiking out West with his friends and cousins, riding a tractor on his cousins’ farm, playing on the beach down south with his grandparents, and boating on the river with his Nana and Pop-pop.

We live in a nice neighborhood just a few minutes from a big East Coast city and take advantage of the nearby museums, music, sports activities, and parks. We have a large backyard that backs up to a wooded area that Colin loves.

We hope that this snapshot of our lives gives you a sense of who we are and what we value. We love being parents and how it makes us see the world and ourselves in a whole new and exciting way. We can’t wait to share our lives with another child.

We will tell your child as much as you desire him or her to know about you and we will keep you informed of how he or she is doing through periodic letters and cards for as long as you wish.
