When my husband and I first decided on adoption in October 2006, we thought we would be in for a wait of one to two years before we held a baby in our arms. As we worked our way through the home study process, we also worked on building our ParentProfiles.com profile. We activated our profile on February 1 and got a number of contacts over the next few weeks. Before the month was through a birth mother had selected us to adopt the twins she was carrying.

Here it is June 2007, our babies were born last Wednesday and we couldn't be happier! They arrived two months early, but are doing very well in the hospital's special care nursery. I was able to be present for the birth even though we live 500 miles away, and we are staying near the babies until they are strong enough to travel home with us.
Over the past four months we have also developed a friendship with the birth parents, some of their extended family, and their friends -- some have even given us gifts and cards!

Although we don't live nearby, we plan to keep in touch and visit back and forth as the babies grow up. Not only do we have the family of our dreams now, but we are also able to help offer the birth mother a fresh start in her life as well, and give her some support and guidance as she rebuilds relationships with her family and her other children.
