We became home-study approved in November 2008 and went online with Parent Profiles in December 2008. There was an initial flurry of very promising instant-message contacts in January 2009 which had us all excited, but one turned out to be a scam, and the others ended up being (very sad) lost pregnancies or situations where the birthmoms decided to parent. Then we experienced a long lull with few contacts, which had us a bit demoralized.

Fortunately, about that time two other adoptive moms from the site contacted us with words of encouragement. One of them, Kim, who had been successful in her adoption effort, was a terrific source of insight, inspiration, and advice. We revised our profile content to try to more clearly express what our family was about, and why adoption was so important to us.

Lo and behold, we immediately got a telephone call from a birthmom due in April, and it all sounded perfect. We were promised the baby. We traveled to meet the birthparents and everything seemed ideal. Well it turned out to be a major scam. We were crushed. Then another promising lead was derailed due to legal hurdles. We experienced a lot of emotional turmoil and guilt, wondering whether we had lost "our" child by not fighting through the logistical hurdles more vigilantly. There was no way to know at the time that our child was still out there waiting for us, and that when things just don't feel right, they aren't right.

Another period of time with few contacts passed. We started reading inspirational books and practicing some serious positive thinking. We started acting as though this adoption was going to happen. We combed through every one of the other Success Stories to gain inspiration from all of the other parents who had waited a really long time, but who finally found their child. We added on the Extreme Exposure feature in April of 2009, and then things really did start to happen!

Two incredible birthmoms found us and we began great dialogues. Each situation had some logistical glitches though that made them a little challenging. We decided to plow ahead and try to make it work. Neither situation panned out, for reasons that had nothing to do with the birthfamilies or the children.

Before we even had a chance to get down about that, The Phone Call came. It was the grandmother of our future daughter. It was a "goosebumps" conversation where EVERYTHING felt exactly right. Within two weeks we were able to meet our beautiful 5-year-old daughter in person, and it was a joyous, emotional visit. On July 10, 2009, we brought her home.

There is no way to adequately describe the happiness we are feeling. She is the PERFECT addition to our family, and we strongly believe we are the perfect family for her, too. Life is wonderful.

Thanks to this wonderful Parent Profiles website, our dreams materialized within seven months of going online with our profile. It is remarkable. Extreme Exposure obviously helped. We will be eternally grateful to Parent Profiles for its role in bringing us together with our daughter, and we wish every other searching family this same level of joy and success. Good luck to all!
