We are not quite sure why, but after all the warnings we were given about
being cautious and protecting ourselves from dishonest and unscrupulous
birthmothers, our experience with the birthmothers who contacted us through the
ParentProfiles.com website was just the opposite.  Perhaps it is because a different
sort of birthmother contacted us than may be available in other types of
adoption situations.  Many of the young women that we talked with were college
students who had a lot in their lives to look forward to and just needed to get
past this mistake that they made in their lives.  Yes, there were those
birthmothers who contacted us just once and then we never heard from them again,
but we easily realized that they have a tough choice to make and couldn’t choose
every couple they considered.

What I think did surprise us the most was that we corresponded quite extensively
with three birthmothers who we knew almost immediately did not match up to what
we needed in our family, yet we were still able to befriend them and be
supportive of them in their search until they were able to get into a more
stable situation were they were safe.   In some situations they really had no
one else to lean on or turn to, and we were grateful for the chance we had to be
there for them.  Two of them that placed their babies for adoption are still in
contact with us.   I honestly think that in the process of helping these
birthmothers with a genuine and unselfish attitude, that we benefited the most. 
I was touched by the tender emotions that this brought out in my husband. It
also helped calm me down a lot and helped take away that almost obsessive
pressure I felt to "grab" every adoption opportunity that came along.

So when the right birthmother and adoption for us came along, we were already
very mellow and relaxed, which is what we needed.   By then we were able to just
be ourselves.  We liked that and so did our birthmother.  We know without a
doubt that we were the right parents for her child and that her child was the
right child for us to adopt.  Knowing this in or hearts the way we do, really
means a lot to us!   I am not sure we ever would have gotten to this point
emotionally on our own without your help, or at least without the environment
that you have created where this is possible for couples like us.   It has
really brought us closer together as a couple and has added a whole new
dimension to our lives.   Thank you for what you are doing with your website,
and most of all, for giving us an opportunity to go through the experience of
healing some of our own pains as part of our adoption process!  Even though we
have already adopted a beautiful baby girl, we know how to do this now and WE
WILL BE BACK!   Keep up the good work and thanks again!
