Success Story

Josh & Ann
We hadn't really considered adopting a non-infant, but when Gwynn contacted us about her 25 month old girl, we decided to go for it! After a LONG 10 days in Arkansas, we finalized on Dec. 23 and made it home for the holidays! Both our birthmoms have found us through Parent Profiles - thanks! more ...

Am I in Labor?

Am I in Labor?

Whether this is your first pregnancy or your tenth, knowing the signs of labor is important. Realize, though, that this important event is one that you will naturally experience. This natural process is not something to dread but to look at as the beginning of a new life that you are in charge of. Knowing the first signs of pregnancy will help you to know when in fact it is about to happen to you.

Labor can happen any time after 37 weeks and be considered normal. Labor that happens before this is called premature labor or early labor.

Warning Signs Of Early Labor:

Contractions or a tightening feeling in the abdomen. If they happen every ten minutes or less, you'll need to call your doctor.
Cramping in the lower abdomen can be constant and painful. Call a doctor.
Constant or coming and going pain in the lower back that is dull.
Increases in vaginal discharge may also be a sign especially that which has a foul odor to it.
If you feel as if the baby is pushing down on you, in a coming and going method, this too is a need to call a doctor.

Normal Labor Symptoms:

Contractions that start in the area of the lower back and move towards the abdomen.
Contractions of any time that come and go. Some may become constant as well.
If contractions become longer and longer and begin to happen more often, you will want to call your doctor. They will also increase in intensity.
Fluid leaking can also be important signs of labor

Often, labor from pregnancy to pregnancy will differ. It changes from woman to woman as well. Knowing the first signs is important. Ask your doctor for his or her recommendation as to what timings he wants you to take as well as when to call him. Labor is a natural part of pregnancy!
