Considering Abortion

Considering Abortion

Considering abortion is a very personal choice that must be weighed carefully. Whether you are worried about being able to provide for the baby or for health reasons, it is important that you think about your emotional and physical well being during the process. Many women may battle with their spirituality as well, so it is important that you discuss your options with your church or religious leaders if you have questions or concerns.

"We are a family...We love, support and need one another. We rejoice, cry and sometimes fail together. But above all, we grow together in God's love." We hope to share this with another child.

Physically, an abortion can range from uncomfortable to painful depending on your tolerance for pain and how far along you are. It is important that you discuss the procedure in detail with your health care provider, so that you understand the risks involved in the procedure. Many women may experience decreased fertility after such a procedure, so do your research beforehand. Always go to someone that you trust and feel comfortable with- in a clean and sterilized office or hospital. Usually the procedure isn't covered by health insurance, so you will need to come up with any fees ahead of time. On the day of the procedure, you will likely be administered a mild sedative to help relax and then the procedure will be performed. Afterwards, you can expect cramping and spotting for several days or weeks afterwards.

Emotionally, you can expect to have a wide range of feelings and thoughts. You may feel relieved, scared, guilty, or a mixture of all the above. Many women may struggle with their choice for many years to come, so it is important that you fully address your feelings prior to having the procedure done. Depression is one of the most common side effects, so if you experience feelings of loss or sadness get help as soon as possible. Abortion is a personal choice, and the more educated you are on the subject, the better you will be able to deal with it both emotionally and physically.
