Creating an Adoption Scrapbook

Scrapbooking not only keeps your creative mind active, it also gives you a place for memories, emotions, feelings, and experiences. Through difficult times and happy times alike, the adoption scrapbook that you create can keep your memories fresh and help you remember the joyful and wondrous times you've had. And others create scrapbooks to log their personal, emotional journeys. While your path may not always be happy, joyful, and perfect, it can still be beneficial to begin your adoption scrapbook at any stage of your journey.

We are a fun and adventurous couple who dream to have a growing family very soon. We can provide a loving, nurturing home for your baby (or babies!), and we pray for you as you make this decision. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!

Every person scrapbooks differently and for different reasons. You have to find the way that works best for you. In direct relation to the adoption process, there are several topics or events that you can include in your adoption scrapbook.

Pregnancy: Being pregnant can be such a beautiful experience. Your body changes in order to give life to another. The most common way to document these changes is through taking pictures. It can be fun to place these photos side by side in order to compare your growth and progress.

Choosing Adoptive Parents: This can also be another exciting journey to take for some. You have the option to pick the family that you feel would fit best with your child. What kind of upbringing do you want your child to experience? For other birth parents, choosing an adoptive family for your child is a heart-wrenching and difficult process. And many find that it helps in the long-run to record each day of this process. This recording--whether in a blog, journal, or scrapbook--can show your progress and emotional healing.

Hospital Stay: This is the perfect time to get things together for your scrapbook. Take pictures of you and your new baby. That way, you'll be able to look back on those photos and remember the time you spent with your lovely child. Talk to the adoptive parents and come to an agreement about who can keep which hospital mementos: hospital bracelet, baby blanket, and so on. These can make great additions to your growing adoption scrapbook.

Photo and Letter Updates: Depending on the type of adoption you and the adoptive parents have agreed upon, you may receive photo and letter updates regarding your child. Add these to your adoption scrapbook. Not only will all your letters and pictures be placed in one easily-accessible location, it is all about growth. If you don't currently have that type of open adoption relationship, write letters to your child and put them in your adoption scrapbook. You never know if you'll reconnect. Even if you don't, these are great things for you to look back on and remember your beautiful child.

Life is a journey. But it is also made up of smaller journeys. This can be one of those journeys. All our experiences in life make us who we are and who we choose to become. It is all about progression, healing, and understanding ourselves, the world around us, and others. While life may seem extremely difficult sometimes, it will get better. You can heal and find happiness and joy once more.
