Success Story

Karl & Am&a
After working with an agency for 1 year, and experiencing a failed adoption through the agency, we contacted Parentprofiles.com. We felt as though we needed to be more involved in the birthparent/ adoptive couple relationship. We set up our profile on June 23, 2004. We emailed and spoke with several wonderful, caring birthmothers and fathers. But ultimately our birthparents contacted us on July 28th and their gorgeous daughter was born on more ...

Getting Involved

Keeping Dad Involved

You played a major role in the creation of your baby. You should play a large role in the baby's first months. More than likely, you will be spending many nights up with your child just as Mom will be. But, what can dad do to stay involved before baby is here? No, we are not talking about prepping the nursery either! There are some excellent ways for you to participate in these exciting months.

Go to the doctor's appointments. Hearing your baby's heart beat and seeing the ultrasound pictures will make it so much more real and personal! You want to know that baby and mom are doing well anyway. And, mom will also want the extra comfort of knowing that you are there as well.
Stay involved in mom. Go ahead, do the things that mean a lot to you too. Take care of her. Provide her with all of your support and understanding even though you have no clue how she is feeling or what her mood may be in the next two minutes! But, understanding her fears, being able to let her talk and doing little things to keep her happy will though!
Do exercises with mom! Most women want to keep off the extra pounds during pregnancy. Join in on the fun. Go for a walk, ride bikes or go swimming together.
Take Lamaze classes too. It's not just for her but for you as well. Take the classes; learn a thing or two that will help her in the delivery room and prepare yourself for all that will happen that big day. This is a great way to participate in your baby's birth.
Read books about your baby. There are excellent books out there that tell you what is going on with baby and mom during each stage of the game. Read up and know what to expect. Get in on the fun by knowing how to react and what to do.

The most important thing we want you to know about us is that your child will be cherished and loved unconditionally above all else. We fully understand that your goal is not to find just “any” parents, but to find the “right” parents to raise your child.

There are many more ways in which dad can stay in the picture in those early months of life. The bonding process that happens now will be perfect for what is to come.
