Medical Decisions

For any delivery experience, making medical decisions can be difficult. It can be even more so if you're planning to place your child with an adoptive family. The major medical decisions that any parent--whether or not that parent is choosing to place--needs to make may involve circumcision and vaccinations. However, it can complicate decisions when the child will be placed and the adoptive parents want a part in the decision-making process.

Our family is full of unconditional love, laughter, hugs and kisses ,and adventures we would love to share with another child. We have a positive, happy, and encouraging environment that will offer endless possibilities for your child.

The first thing to remember is that while your parental rights are intact, you have the ability to make any decision relating to your child. Even if the adoptive family is pressuring you to make a certain decision, know that it is your decision to make. However, even with that being said, allowing the adoptive parents to add input for each decision can create a healthy and harmonious post-adoption relationship. And that doesn't mean you have to give in to their demands. It means that you should consider a compromise, and if you don't want to compromise, that's your right. No one should fault you for that.

When it comes to making the medical decision about circumcision for your son, you may need to research the facts, the procedure, and the side effects or possible complications. Throughout your research you'll find many people and groups for and against circumcision. Some believe that circumcision is barbaric and considered genital mutilation while others believe that circumcision is more sanitary and can help the boy live a healthier life. However, you'll need to make your own decision based on your own beliefs. Even the American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't have a stance on circumcision. This is because they encourage every parent to make a decision based on cultural, religious, and personal beliefs.

The same goes for vaccinations. You'll find people who believe vaccinations are a great way to prevent future illnesses and infections. And others will vehemently disagree with the widespread acceptance of vaccinations at birth. But when deciding on whether or not to allow vaccinations or which vaccinations to allow, ample research will be beneficial. Study about each vaccination and understand the purpose and the side effects. This will help you to make the decision you need to make, an informed decision.

If you're feeling overwhelmed with the decision-making process, as it concerns medical decision, consider involving your close friends, family members, or professional counselors. They may be able to give you unique insights into your own situation or help come to a fuller, clearer understanding of yourself, your needs, and your exact situation.

Making the necessary medical decisions is difficult, no matter if you plan to place or parent. However, it's a necessary part of the journey. Consider it as an opportunity to grow and learn. And move forward with confidence knowing you made the right decision for your child.
