Success Story

Nikki & Rob
We had been on ParentProfiles.com for seven months and while we had talked to several people, we hadn't clicked with anyone. Then one morning we got a phone call. A couple had seen our profile and wanted us to come to the hospital; they had just given birth to a baby girl the night before. We brought our angel home the very next day. Without ParentProfiles.com, our daughter's birthparents would never have found us. Thank you so more ...

Parenting Sacrifices

Parenting Sacrifices

Parenthood is full of amazing experiences, many joys, and ample heartache and necessary sacrifices. Some of these sacrifices are things you may have taken advantage of earlier in your life--things you never realized that you would need to give up to parent. Keep in mind that not all of the sacrifices listed below will happen at once. Some sacrifices will be immediate and others sacrifices will manifest themselves later down the parenting road.

We are honored to know you are taking the time to learn about us. You are an amazing young lady and we admire your strength to make this careful decision for your baby.

Lifestyle: This is an automatic parenting sacrifice. Once you bring your child home, you'll instantly have to change your lifestyle. Even once you find out you're adopting or are pregnant you'll need to change your lifestyle. For starters, you'll want to baby-proof your house. You can no longer leave things lying around on the floors or on coffee tables. You must be diligent with keeping your child safe and secure.

Free Time: In order to properly care for your child, you will need to spend time with him/her. You'll need to take your free time and bathe, feed, play, and teach your child. Your free time will be taken up by parental duties and responsibilities.

Financial: It's a well-known fact that raising a child is expensive. For some parents, money won't be an issue. Those who are financially secure generally won't be burdened too much by the financial sacrifice of raising a child. For many parents, however, finances are a daily stress. Keep in mind that finances usually fluctuate. For a few months you'll be living paycheck to paycheck while next year you'll be fine. Be prepared to create a budget and stick to it.

Relationships: Raising children will demand your time and energy. As a result, your relationships may suffer. The time you used to spend with your spouse, partner, or friends will be devoted to your children. Your energy will be spent caring for your children, and you may not feel energized enough to maintain your other important relationships. Remember that open communication is the key to successful relationships.

Education: For many parents, their educational pursuits are put on hold. This goes hand-in-hand with lack of free time. Once your children grow up a little, you'll find that you have more free time than you had previously.

In the following sections, you can read even more information about each one of above sacrifices. Remember that parenting can be a blessing as well as a trial. If you are aware of the potential sacrifices, you can prepare for them. These sacrifices can make life and parenting more significant, important, and meaningful.
