Success Story

Erick & Carrie
After much difficulty and craziness, our adoption has succeeded!!!! We wrote a poem about Katie's story:
"She was loved even before the moment of her birth, She was wished for upon every star above the earth, She was protected before she developed her own voice, We prayed for her arrival; this child of our choice. Unexpected obstacles strengthened our resolve, Around the need to bring her home our world seemed to revolve, On planes, trains, more ...

Single Parenting

Single Parenting

Parenting can be stressful. You are responsible for more than just yourself. You must provide for their well-beings, their comforts, and their livelihoods. While parenting is happy and joyful, it is also hard and tedious. Single parenting can be even more so. While at times being a single parent can be terrifying and overwhelming, it is important to stay positive, remain calm, and continue moving forward through life and parenthood. Here are some great ways to do just that:

  • Ask for Help: If you need help, ask for it. There is nothing about which to be ashamed or embarrassed. Whether you need financial help or emotional support, you can find those willing and ready to help. Federal financial help is also available to you. There are programs that can help you get back on your feet. Remember that everyone needs assistance every now and then, and that is why these programs have been established.
  • Start Saving: No matter your circumstance, it is important to begin saving some money. Put what you can into a savings account--even it if is only a few dollars a month. It will add up quicker than you think. Knowing that you have money saved can give you peace of mind. You can save this money for an emergency, a rainy day, or even a future vacation or holiday plans. Sometimes, it is just nice to know that you have some money saved away.
  • Budget: Create a budget, and stick to it. It will seem like a pain in the beginning, but you'll see the benefits once you get used to it. Budgeting is a great way to make sure your money is allocated correctly. It can show you what you spend your money on and where you can cut back, if you need to. That way, you can create a budget that fits your needs and your current lifestyle.
  • Support System: Having a support system is important as a single parent. Gather your trusted family members and friends around you. They can help lift you when you're feeling down. They can help you when you need it. They will be there for you through the joyful times and the difficult times. This personal network you create can be your strength when yours is running low. Lean on them. It will bring you all closer together, which will form an even stronger support system.
  • Personal Time: Parenting is stressful. Life is stressful. Make sure you reserve some time for yourself in your busy schedule. Set aside some time to do things you love to do: reading, watching television, going to a movie, taking a nap, going for a run and so on. This is your time to relax, recuperate, and enjoy yourself. In order to take care of your children, you have to make sure you take care of yourself, too.
