Dear Birthmother
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about us. We can only imagine what a difficult and brave decision this must be for you. We hope that by reading this profile, you will get to know about our journey together, our lives, and what we hope to be able to provide if you choose us to be the adoptive parents of your child.
After a whirlwind ten months of dating and getting to know each other, we realized we truly wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. We married surrounded by our families and close friends in August, 2004 and have been striving constantly to be better partners ever since. From our earliest conversations, we both knew we wanted to be parents and both wanted to adopt. After facing many fertility challenges, we are at this point wanting to expand our family and needing to reach out to you in order to do so.
Through it all, we make our marriage top priority. We are committed to focusing on each other. Through our heart-to-hearts, we have thoroughly discussed our desire to be parents. We have talked about our hopes and dreams for our child, above all else that he or she feel loved and supported.
In addition to all of our times with family, we cherish times at home – playing with our two cats, Dora and Owen; talking; laughing; playing games. We also make a point to explore Chicago. We experience live theater, see movies, try different restaurants, visit parks. Some of our favorite Chicago memories so far have been canoeing down the Chicago River, running a half-marathon together, participating in the Late Ride bike ride around the city, watching the fireworks at Navy Pier, and exploring Millenium Park.
Traveling has also enriched our lives. We celebrated our wedding weekend in and around Galena, Illinois; went to Mexico – Ixtapa and Zihuatanehua – for our honeymoon; saw the musical Wicked in Atlanta; and recently visited London. These trips give us chances to learn and explore. Every time we travel somewhere new, we realize more than ever that we need to make adventures – both large and small – a part of our marriage.

Matt can talk to anyone – and actually enjoys doing so. This quality draws people to him. It helps in his nonprofit job at a local chamber of commerce. He talks with aldermen and business owners, listening to everyone and striving to constantly improve the area. He has always had a drive to help others, which led him to teach for eight years, get a Masters in Urban Planning, and go on to help local business owners.
Matt loves new experiences. From volunteering on a political campaign, to flying an airplane, he seeks out and embraces new opportunities. Matt’s genuine love for and concern for others prompts him to stay close with his large family, constantly reaching out to them, playing with his nephews and nieces, talking with his siblings and parents. Since all of his immediate family lives in the Chicagoland area, birthday parties, holidays and simple afternoon get-togethers give us many opportunities to spend time together.
Jen is an incredibly compassionate person who cherishes each day and each experience. She has lived her life to provide a positive impact on everyone she comes in contact with—students, friends, and family. Her dedication to education has driven her to earn two Master’s Degrees and National Education Certification. She supplements this with many hobbies, such as spending times with close friends, exercising, reading and writing, and enjoying all Chicago has to offer. Jen moved to Chicago from a small town outside of Cleveland, OH, and has made the most of every day here. Whether it is training for or running the Chicago Marathon, visiting the many neighborhoods, or traveling to extra curricular events with students, she has made the City of Chicago her own.
Jen also finds time and energy to visit friends and family from around the country. We spend the Fourth of July in Columbus with her roommate from college, many holidays with her parents near Cleveland, and visit her sister, who also lives in Ohio.
As our journey continues, we would like to begin to enjoy a house full of toys, games of hide and seek, seeing the city and the rest of the world through the wide eyes of a child, sharing our passions for reading and learning with a child. The one thing missing is the child so we can begin the next amazing adventure, together.
We know you have a huge, immensely important decision in front of you. We appreciate your taking this time to get to know us. Whether or not you choose to meet with us, we wish you and your child all the best.
