Dutch & Colleen are hopeful adoptive parents from Minnesota waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Dear Birthparent Hi, we are Colleen and Delmar (Dutch). We want you to know we appreciate you taking the time to read our letter and learn more about us. We feel strongly that your consideration of adoption shows a level of strength, love, and dedication that any parent strives for. We can only hope this letter will accurately portray the love and dedication we have for each other as well as the joy we have at the prospect of being parents.

Adoption has been an integral part of both of our lives for as long as we can remember. Dutch’s mom and his good friend have both placed children and Colleen’s cousin and a good friend are both adopted. Although we are not able to have biological children we are excited to expand our family through adoption and concluded an open adoption is the most natural way to complete our family.

We met while working together, before long we became friends and both soon realized how much we enjoyed spending time together. We have been married for nine years. From the beginning we knew children would be a part of our lives and we have focused our energies on preparing a loving and secure home for our family.
About Us COLLEEN TALKS ABOUT DUTCH
Dutch is warm, caring and patient, qualities I know will make him a great dad. I can just imagine him showing children how to fish, teaching them to ride a bike or just spending quiet time together reading stories. Dutch’s impersonations and stories about his grandpa are always a hit with the children of our friends and family. They love his goofy sense of humor and know “Uncle Dutch” means fun.

Dutch loves the outdoors and is an avid fisherman. He also enjoys golf, playing basketball and softball, and watching Vikings and Timberwolves games. He’s a great cook and our friends love dinner parties at our home where Dutch prepares his special Mexican and Italian dishes.

DUTCH TALKS ABOUT COLLEEN
I believe my wife was placed on this earth to be a mom. Colleen is great with kids. She is a favorite babysitter of our nieces, nephews and friends’ kids. She has a degree in elementary education and 15 years experience working with families and all ages of children. Her innate ability to relate to kids seems to draw them to her.

Colleen loves to read and spends free time decorating our home and expanding our gardens. She bakes often and I love coming home from work to find she has made my favorite cookies or home made bread. Personally, Colleen is my best friend. She helps me realize the truly important things in life and keeps me focused on them.

Our Lives Together Being an ethnically diverse couple, we loving living in a multicultural neighborhood. Our home is on a quiet street with many young children. We love the diversity of the area and the close-knit feel our friendly neighborhood provides. Our home is within walking distance to the library, walking paths, a park with a beach and playground, lakes, shops and restaurants.

We love the outdoors. Much of our free time is spent taking our boat to fish the lakes and rivers of Minnesota, walking our dogs Bo and Rocco, and biking. Many summer weekends are spent at friends’ cabins or camping in Northern Minnesota. Travel is important to us and we enjoy visiting state and national parks and warm weather destinations like Mexico, Arizona and Florida. We look forward to traveling with children, showing them new sites and cultures.

We are blessed with wonderful families all of whom live close to us. Colleen sees her parents and older siblings often. We have summer picnics at her parent’s house by the pool, where her nieces and nephews love to splash. She spends a lot of time with her mom and sister, shopping, going out to lunch, and going to local art festivals.

Dutch has a great relationship with his family, including his six nieces and nephews. His family gatherings are always loud, fun filled occasions. Dozens of children and adults enjoy lively conversation and laughter while feasting on his sisters’ home cooked meals. His mom has huge heart and her grand kids and great grand kids love sleepovers at her house and helping in her large garden. Our families are excited at the prospect of us adopting a child.

Imagining Parenthood COLLEEN
I have always envisioned being a stay-at home mom. Hopefully my many years of work as a camp counselor, teacher and youth program director have helped prepare me for parenthood. I can imagine favorite places to visit might be the local zoos, children’s museum, and story time at the library down the block. Quiet time at home might be spent baking cookies, reading stories, doing art projects and growing flowers and vegetables in the garden.

DUTCH
When I imagine being a father my thoughts turn to cherished time together as a family. I see days at the park for picnics and family vacations to naturally beautiful destinations. I see nights by the campfire, playing hide and seek and biking wooded trails. Most of all I envision the simple times and look forward to providing comfort for every scraped knee or bad dream.

Although education about adoption has enlightened us, we know we can’t possibly understand what you are going through. We want you to know that we would be honored to be the adoptive parents for your child. We’ve chosen open adoption to ensure everyone involved agrees on the best future for your child and we’re interested in hearing about the hopes and dreams you have for your child.

We look forward to meeting you and, if you desire, we can stay in touch. If you feel we might be the right parents for your child, feel free to call us. Thank you for getting to know us better, we wish you the best with your decision.

All Our Best Wishes,

Dutch and Colleen
