Scott & Alyssa are hopeful adoptive parents from Nebraska waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Dear Birthmother Dear Friend,

We have great respect for you because we know for ourselves that your offering is made in love. We know that the Lord watches over adoption.

In February 2004 we adopted a baby girl that we named Hannah Joy. Her birth mother, a beautiful woman in her early twenties, has told us since that she knew we were the ones for her baby from the time she first sat down on her bed and read our letter.

From that moment on, even when things got rough, she drew strength from her assurance that her Heavenly Father had prepared us for her and her baby. We only share this with you so that you might feel and see that our love for you is not imagined.

We know that he has brought us together for a purpose.
Our Story We were married in the Portland, Oregon LDS temple in 1997. We now live near Alyssa’s family. Since marrying, Alyssa has graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Psychology and Scott has graduated with an American Studies master’s degree from Utah State. We are now in the Midwest while Scott works on his Ph.D. in English. He plans on teaching English at a university when he graduates next spring.

We both desired to have children early on in our marriage. We didn't expect the difficult journey we would travel in order to get them. Alyssa felt early on that there might be something wrong. We talked about adoption at the time but weren't sure it was the right option. We tried a few fertility tests and drugs but with no success. After Alyssa was diagnosed with Endometriosis we decided to complete the adoption papers we had started and stopped several times. Just seven months after we had been approved for adoption, Hannah was placed in our home. She is the light of our lives and we recognize the miracle that she is to us.
About Alyssa and Hannah My family consists of two beautiful sisters, Becky and Robbyn, and a brother, David. My dad just retired after being an accountant for 30 years. He is always concerned for his family’s welfare and we know him to be generous; he can't say no to the grandkids! Hannah likes to sit on his lap for dinner when we’re visiting. He’s a big man with a good heart. My mom is fun to be around, a real game player during the holidays, and yet hardworking, teaching piano during the week. She is constantly asked to sing or accompany musical numbers. I have two nephews and a niece.

I am a stay-at-home mom and I love it! We always planned for me to be at home with our children. Both Scott and I feel it is so important for a mother to be at home taking care of the children whenever possible. Although full of hard work, no other job could bring me greater joy than watching Hannah grow up.

My hobbies include exercise, knitting, reading, sewing, scrapbooking, singing, and playing the piano. Hannah and I do almost everything together. We go to the YMCA about 5 times a week where she plays or goes to preschool. We love spending time with friends. Hannah is a popular girl! We are almost always at someone's house or playing with friends at the park. We both really enjoy the strong friendships we've been able to develop.

Hannah, our “big girl,” turned four years old in February, 2008. She loves laughing, running, riding the bus to work with Dad, singing, reading stories, dancing, helping with babies (sometimes too much), playing with dolls, toting around stuffed animals, swimming lessons, petting neighborhood dogs, catching the balls Dad throws to her, swinging, sliding, and hunting bugs. More than anything else, Hannah wants to be a big sister. She prays several times a day for a "baby brother or sister for Mommy and for me."
About Scott I have nine brothers and sisters, all of whom love children and are more or less successful in life. My sisters are all educated, outspoken, creative, feminine, beautiful, and talented. My brothers have various interests and are good uncles, soft at heart. My father is an architect who is fun, handsome, and has many gifts that bless his children and grandchildren. My mother, a woman without peers, is strong, talented, and loving. She goes a thousand miles a minute and yet finds time for her husband and children. I have been extremely close to her all my life. My parents enjoy grandparenting and just built a home with the sixteen grandchildren in mind.

Although I teach and work on my dissertation during the week, I'm usually home in the evenings and on weekends. Nothing matters more to me than family. My common activities and interests have been and currently are playing sports, drawing and painting, writing poetry, singing, conversing with friends, teaching, reading scripture, playing Candyland and tag with Hannah (when I am up to it), relaxing in front of the TV, and eating out.
