If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

WELCOME TO OUR PROFILE Greetings, We are Keith and Carlie from Raleigh, North Carolina and we are so delighted that you are reading our letter. It is our hope that this letter will provide you with a snapshot of us and our life together. Thank you for considering adoption, a true unselfish act of love. We admire your strength and courage. We are thrilled with the opportunity to build our family through adoption. We welcome an ongoing and healthy relationship with you and your family, one that makes you feel most comfortable.

ABOUT US

Our adventure began seven years ago when we met through mutual friends and then married for life in 2002. We are best friends and do just about everything together. We love to laugh with each other everyday. In addition to unconditional love and support, our relationship is stable because of open communication and respect for one another. We feel these are essential ingredients in a family. Even before we were married, we knew that adoption was a natural choice for us. It would be our dream come true to share our life, love and happiness with a child.

AS PARENTS

We are very excited and cannot wait to become parents. We anticipate the day when we hear our child call us mommy and daddy. Every detail of raising our child is extremely important to us. We plan to be very hands-on parents by helping with homework, carpooling, hosting sleepovers and participating in school fundraisers. We envision being active members of the PTA at our child’s school. We want our child to feel loved, be his or herself, follow their dreams, have fun, feel safe and be happy. We look forward to every smile, every hug, and every kiss.

OUR PROMISE

Our promise to you is that we will be open and honest with our child about his or her adoption and heritage. We have already started a scrapbook to capture every step of our family’s adoption story and can’t wait to share it with our child. Hopefully it will be one of their favorite books, we know it will be ours. We are committed to maintaining an ongoing relationship with you. We strongly feel that children can’t have too many people to love them and we feel privileged to adopt.
OUR HOME Our home is nestled in a quiet, family friendly neighborhood in a rural corner of Raleigh, North Carolina. We love Raleigh as it is just hours from the beach and mountains. We picture building sand castles with our child during family trips to the beach. We live on a cul-de-sac where children play safely. Household projects are common happenings at our place and we are very excited to begin decorating our child’s room. We share our welcoming, cozy home with Ashes, our old-spirited cat. Our community has several fun family activities including paved greenway trials, a life guarded pool with toddler area, a playground, tennis courts and benches for tired parents. We are looking forward to the day when we can cheer on our child at our neighborhood swim meet. Go Typhoons!
WORK & PLAY We are registered nurses and work for the same company in the pharmaceutical industry. We love our jobs, but family is our number one priority. We are very fortunate to have flexible work schedules with weekends and holidays off and thankfully plenty of vacation time. We can’t wait for our first family vacation to Disney. Carlie plans to spend our child’s first year at home, possibly longer. She eagerly awaits days filled with changing diapers, baby talk, feeding time and stroller walks. We look forward to sitting down for dinner as a family and of course bath time and bedtime stories

We truly cherish the company of each other. We enjoy riding bikes, playing tennis, watching movies and taking long walks. We plan to make movie night at the local drive-in a family summer must. Carlie’s passions are yoga, knitting and her flower garden. She looks forward to seeing our child’s fascinated smile, as tulips magically appear in the spring from the bulbs they planted in the fall. Keith is an avid golfer. He also enjoys playing the guitar, nurturing our lawn and shooting hoops in our driveway. He is excited to strum his guitar as Carlie sings soothing lullabies and nursery rhymes to our child. We will always encourage and support our child to discover and develop their own talents and interests.
OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS Our family and friends have been a positive source of ongoing support and excitement throughout this journey. Everyone is thrilled for us to become parents. Our parents can’t wait to be grandparents and our siblings can’t wait to be aunts and uncles. Nanny Worthman has already started to crochet a white christening blanket for her newest grandchild. Our child will have three sets of grandparents, three uncles, an aunt, two cousins, a great-grandmother, a great-great grandmother and lots of extended aunts, uncles and cousins. Our family lives in Canada, mostly in Newfoundland and we are extremely close to them. We speak daily and visit with them often. We are excited to vacation in Canada with our child. For Keith’s family, this will be the first grandchild and niece or nephew. Keith’s parents are already bragging about purchasing the first child size Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, our family’s favorite hockey team. Carlie’s parents are retired which allows them to visit with us frequently for extended periods of time. They often spend Christmas with us and are looking forward to helping their grandchild hang his or her first ornament on our tree. We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of friends here in Raleigh who have become our extended family. We envision adding our little one to the group of children at our weekly social gatherings with them.
