Adoption in Progress.
Beginnings....
We wonder what your hopes and dreams are as we think about ours. We’ll be supportive of your vision as you get to know us.
I'll always remember the day Mike and I met.... on a snowy January afternoon on college campus during freshmen year. Being his very playful self, he started a snowball fight with my friends and I. Little did we know that this would lead to our marriage, 6 years later on May 30, 1999.
So, we have known each other for 14 years and after eight years of marriage we know we’ll be together forever. Our relationship is based on love, respect, great conversation, and laughter. When we disagree, we share our reasoning with each other and come up with a solution...and we end up laughing about it.
Our family will not be complete until we are raising two children. The first part of our dream was realized when we became Alyse’s Mom and Dad. Alyse was born in Russia...where we first met her and felt unconditional love. She was 16 months old when we became her parents on September 15, 2004. At four years old, Alyse is very determined to be the big sister. She loves to hear her adoption story. We are eternally grateful to Alyse's birth mother and she feels love for her.
We hope that one day we will have a great memory of how we met our future baby boy or girl. This time we hope to connect with a loving Birth Mother or Birth Parents who will have a great relationship with us…. and we will share these memories with our future child about his or her birth parent(s) so both of our children will feel love for their birth parents.
Every day life ....
Mike works near our home and returns from work at 4:30 p.m. so we always have family dinner together. We understand that family meals will change as our children grow and have their friends over or become teenagers and opt for quicker meals. Mike works as a senior computer engineer for a pharmaceutical company. He enjoys helping our family and friends with their computer problems.
Mike is a big kid at heart and can always make me laugh. He enjoys being the coach for Alyse’s soccer team. He loves to root for the Eagles on football Sundays, likes to play computer games, and has liked camping ever since his camp counselor days when he was a teenager.
Once we adopted Alyse in 2004, I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom. Before, I worked as a laboratory technician in analytical chemistry and then in a fragrance & flavor company. I love being Alyse’s mommy …..we play games, do crafts, and I help her with her homework. Some of Alyse's favorite times are when we put on music and sing and dance like silly girls, finding new books in the library, and shopping. Alyse loves to play with her friends. This year she is in preschool 3 days a week, half days, and loves it. She is also in Ballet/Jazz dance class and on a soccer tot league. We will let our younger son or daughter explore so he or she may end up enjoying different activites.
There are many daily activities I enjoy. Some of these are cooking- two family favorites are homemade Mac-n-Cheese and homemade pizza, there are never leftovers; spending time with my daughter; and exercising with my girlfriends.
I'm prepared for all that being a mom to a baby involves...late night feedings and diaper changing, nursery rhymes, and more. It’s a perfect time to complete our family.
Also, we are prepared for all that comes with children growing into their own selves and understand they will face happy and challenging times. We will be there for them through thick and thin.
Home and family...
Our community is centered around family, having many activities. Our neighborhood has lots of young families and we have many friends with young children. Our home is a short walk to the elementary school that Alyse will be attending next year. We also live a block away from a park & Baseball field that Alyse enjoys to ride her bike with mommy and daddy.
We love our 4-bedroom/ 2 ½ bath home, with a large size backyard with a swing set and children’s playhouse. We enjoy hanging out, watching movies or playing games in our family room.
Our cat, Maui, named to remind us of our honeymoon in Hawaii. We got her as a kitten during the first year of our marriage. We also have two guinea pigs, Pepe and Yoohoo (very recent additions).
Living in New Jersey, we are close to the shore and two major cities. I am very familiar with the New York City area, since I grew up just outside the city and my family still lives there. Mike is very familiar with the Philadelphia area, since he grew up just outside the city also and his family still lives there.
Our families are very important to us. Both sets of our parents have been married for over 30 years. My parents still live in the home that I grew up in. About 2 years ago, we went to Disney with my parents. They loved spending that quality time with us, especially experiencing everything with Alyse. We loved Disney so much that we went again in the beginning of 2007.
I’m the oldest of two sisters, Connie & Michele, both married. We are very close. My youngest sister, Michele, has a 1 year old boy, my nephew and Godchild, Joseph. Alyse loves playing and taking care of him. She loves being his big cousin. I have close relationships with my grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins. We always get together for family birthdays and holidays at either my parents’ house or grandmother’s house.
We also have a tradition in the Fall for apple and pumpkin picking at my house that everyone tries coming to. We go to a nearby farm to pick apples and pumpkins and then bake pies all day long. We freeze some pies for everyone to enjoy on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I also have a very large family in Italy, my grandfather, aunts, uncles and many cousins. Just this year we visited my family in Italy so that Alyse and her cousin Joseph could get to know their great-grandfather, his first great-grandchildren. We all had a great time.
We have a great relationship with Mike’s parents. Mike’s younger brother passed away about 7 years ago suddenly. His presence is always missed, but his memories allow him to remain a big part of Mike’s and our family. We are always over Mike’s parents house, especially in the summer time to swim in their in-ground pool. Alyse loves swimming at grandma’s and grandpa’s house. He also has grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins that we see frequently. We also enjoy vacationing with his parents. They always rent a shore house in the summer for a couple of weeks. We enjoy the beach and also always try to take out a boat to go crabbing during this vacation. This is a tradition that started before we were married for Mike and I ..and now Alyse..and hopefully soon our younger boy or girl.
