Joshua & Catherine are hopeful adoptive parents from North Carolina waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

GREETINGS Hello! We are Catherine and Joshua from Matthews, North Carolina. We are thrilled to be starting down an exciting path toward adoption and expanding our family. Thank you for reading our letter and taking time to learn about us. Considering open adoption shows incredible love and maturity on your part. We hope that this letter will answer some of your questions about us.

We have been married since 1997 and these ten years have been full of joy. We are both energetic and creative people—we bring out the best in each other and we know that our strong marital bond will create a nurturing, loving, and fun-filled family environment!

ABOUT US JOSHUA (BY CATHERINE)
“Joshua is a happy, caring, and sensitive person who is almost always in a good mood and a lot of fun to be around. He loves his work as an English professor at a small college and is excited about getting to be a stay-at-home dad during his summers off from teaching. Joshua has so many interests and hobbies, including bike riding, guitar, and photography. I can already imagine him playing lullabies on his guitar to our child at bedtime and teaching him or her to ride a bike. Joshua will be a fun and loving father.”

CATHERINE (BY JOSHUA)
“Catherine is a truly loving person and my best friend. She is also a kind and generous individual. I love to see her interacting with the children that she works with at her job as a child psychologist. She has such a way of making each one of them feel special. It brings me great happiness and joy to think of all the wonderful times that she will share with our child—running around in the garden with the dogs, playing in the sand at the beach, reading stories, and making yummy food together. Catherine will be a fantastic mom.”

INTERESTS
We share so many interests, including travel, cooking, reading, and being in nature. We look forward to traveling to new places with our child during Joshua’s summers off as well as cozy winter evenings spent eating homemade cookies and reading stories together by the fireplace in our home. We are excited about planting a special garden just for our child so that he or she can experience the joys of watching sunflowers grow and picking delicious, fresh strawberries.

HOME AND FAMILY HOME
We live in a comfortable and welcoming home in Matthews, a beautiful, sunny small town just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. Matthews has a small town feel with friendly neighbors who look out for each other and a lot of fun activities for families. We are surrounded by the countryside and are just a few hours drive from both the mountains and the ocean. Our child’s room is a cozy space big enough for making
forts and having sleep-overs with friends. We can’t wait to take our child to the local Farmer’s Market to pick out fresh peaches and to the outdoor movies shown in the town square in the summer. We think that Matthews will be an excellent place to raise a child.

FAMILY
We are both extremely lucky to have supportive, generous, and loving families. Our families include several people who have been adopted, which makes them even more excited about our plans to adopt. Catherine’s grandmother has already been knitting little sweaters for our baby and our nieces are so excited to have another cousin. Our child will be the first baby on Joshua’s side of the family and they can hardly wait to welcome our child into the family. Both of our immediate families live in parts of Southern and Northern California and we visit with them several times a year. We have already started planning for our child’s first trip to Disneyland during one of our family visits.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about us. Without having even met you, we are in awe of your courage and compassion and hope that we can be a support to you as you make this important decision. Learning about each other now and maintaining contact in the future is an ideal way to show our child that they are deeply loved by you. Please call us toll-free at 1-800-367-8116 or e-mail us. You can also learn more about us and open adoption by contacting the Independent Adoption Center at 1-800-877-OPEN (6736).

Warmly,

Catherine McClellan & Joshua Fisher
