Dan & Kathy are hopeful adoptive parents from Illinois waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Dear Birthmother, We can’t imagine how difficult this situation must be for you. You are very courageous to consider making an adoption plan for your child. We admire your love and your courage as you think about what will be best for your baby. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and our dream of sharing our love and our life with a child.

Our Decision to Adopt
We love children, and we are so excited to become parents! After years of trying and many unsuccessful fertility treatments, we realize that God has another plan for us, and that He is leading us down a different path to parenthood. There are many ways to build a family, and we are joyfully looking forward to building our family through adoption! As parents, we will surround our child with love and encouragement. We will share our values of religion, family, respect for others, honesty, education, happiness, and love. We will provide our child with opportunities to explore his or her unique, individual interests and encourage our child to follow his or her dreams. Our most heartfelt dream is to share our love and our life with a child.
About Us We met on a blind date, and we have been married for 11 years. We have a strong marriage that is built on love, trust, respect, and support. We love being married, and we are best friends! We are always there for each other, and we have learned that, together, we can handle whatever difficulties come our way. Our marriage is filled with love, laughter, and lots of I love you’s.

Some of our favorite things to do together are…working outside in our yard and garden, curling up together in front of our cozy fireplace to read or watch a movie, going hiking and appreciating the beauty of nature, and traveling to new places. We also love spending time with our families. We get together often for family dinners, birthday parties, children’s basketball, football, and soccer games, music concerts, school programs, museum visits, holidays, and family vacations. Kathy’s grandparents had a house on a lake in Wisconsin for years, and the family still gathers there on summer weekends. We all have fun swimming, going for boat rides, taking walks, playing games, and cooking s’mores on the bonfire. At family get-togethers, you can usually find Dan on the floor with our nieces and nephews, wrestling with them, tickling them, and making them laugh. One of our favorite sounds is a child’s laughter, and we can’t wait to have that sound fill our home!

About Dan
Dan grew up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, having lots of fun and getting into lots of mischief with his 2 younger brothers. Dan was nicknamed “Big Grin” as a baby, because of his warm and wonderful smile! Growing up, Dan spent lots of time with his family downhill skiing, sailing, and camping. Dan got his first pair of skis before he was even 1 year old! When Dan was in elementary school, he lived with his family in Spain for 3 years. He loved living in Spain and learning about a different culture. It was an amazing experience he will always remember. Dan earned a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design. He works in downtown Chicago, where he is a Vice President at a consulting firm. Dan is a kind and loving person who is full of life and has a wonderful sense of humor. He loves skiing, sailing, cooking, working on remodeling projects, and playing and watching sports—especially Detroit teams! He is a huge Michigan State University fan. His nieces and nephews call him “Uncle Sparty” in honor of Michigan State’s mascot, the Spartan. You’ll notice he wears a lot of green and white—Michigan State’s colors! Dan is wonderful with children, and he is so excited to become a Daddy!

About Kathy
Kathy grew up in a suburb of Chicago, giggling and laughing with her 3 older sisters. Kathy loves children, and this love led her to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree and become an elementary school teacher. Some of her favorite parts of being a teacher were reading aloud to children, creating hands-on activities for learning, doing art projects, and going on field trips—all activities that she is so excited to share with our child! Kathy is a sweet and loving person who is always looking to help others. She loves taking walks, growing flowers, and working on creative projects like arts & crafts and photo albums. Kathy loves to read, and has a wonderful collection of children’s books just waiting to be shared with a little one! Kathy also loves to sing and play the piano. She loves singing in the choir at our church and singing songs and lullabies to our nieces and nephews. Each Christmas, she looks forward to singing in the “Do-It-Yourself Messiah” in downtown Chicago. Kathy is so excited to share singing and music with our child! Kathy also volunteers at our church on a committee that organizes service projects to help people in need. She makes sandwich lunches for the homeless, donates food to local food pantries, and buys gifts for people in need at Christmas. Kathy will be staying home full-time to care for our child, and she is so excited to become a Mommy!

Our Families
We are both blessed to have loving and supportive families. Family is so important to us, and we are grateful for all the love, joy, and support that our families give us. We are both very close with our families, and we love being together! We celebrate all the happy times, and we support each other through the difficult times. Together, we have 2 moms, 1 dad (sadly, Kathy’s dad passed away 1 ½ years ago), 2 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, 3 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, 9 nieces and nephews, 2 grandmas, 1 grandpa, and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins! Our families are so excited about our decision to adopt, and they are all happily waiting to welcome a new little one into the family! With our large families, our child will be surrounded with love, joy, and support from so many wonderful people, ranging in age from 7 months to 97 years old! The gift of adoption has already blessed our family. Kathy’s cousin and his wife recently adopted a baby boy. We feel it will be a wonderful blessing for their child and our child to share the common bond of adoption. Being with family and enjoying family traditions mean so much to us, and we are so excited to share these traditions—and to create new ones!—with our child!

Our Faith
We were both raised in the Lutheran faith, and our faith is a very important part of our life. It sets the foundation for all of our values. Our faith guides us in our life, and brings us joy, comfort, and strength to get through difficult times. God has blessed us greatly in our lives, and we dream of sharing this faith and these blessings with our child.
A Gift of Love Adoption is a special gift between birthparents, adoptive parents, and a precious child. Our child will know his or her adoption story. Our child will know that your decision to make an adoption plan was made out of love. We are very willing to explore a level of openness that is comfortable for all of us. Together, we can figure out what this level of openness will be. Most of all, we want to respect your wishes and your feelings. If we are blessed to be chosen by you, we will be forever grateful to you for giving us the gift of family. You will always hold a special and loving place in our hearts and our lives.
Thank You Thank you for reading our letter and learning about us and our dream of sharing our love and our life with a child. We hope we have shown you the kind of life we would provide for your child, and how we would surround your child with love and joy if we were blessed to be chosen by you. If you would like, we would love to talk with you, and get to know each other better. We admire your love and your courage as you think about what will be best for your baby. We respect the brave decision you are making for yourself and your child. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We wish you peace and comfort in your decision. God bless you.

Warmly,
Dan and Kathy
