John & Karen are hopeful adoptive parents from Maryland waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Thank you for considering our family and taking time to read our profile. We know that the decision you’ve made to choose adoption for your child comes with love, concern and thoughtful consideration. We admire your courage and strength and hope that the information below will help you get to know us a little.

We met about 14 years ago in a really neat way - we were both on vacations with our families! Throughout the week of the vacation, we got to know each other and our families even met. The vacation ended, but our interest in each other did not. We continued to talk and see each other and now have been married 7 years!
JOHN John is from the Mid West. He attended law school, practiced law for two years and now works as a financial analyst for an investment fund. After working in the fast-paced, big city environment, he is excited to now be at a small firm with emphasis on family and lifestyle.

WHY KAREN LOVES JOHN
When I met John while we were on our family vacation years ago, I pretty much knew he was the one for me. I found him to be funny, smart, good looking, and just a cool guy. Almost 15 years later, I still think those things. Luckily, I know so many more wonderful things about him now and am able to share those with him. John has some neat hobbies that keep him active and outdoors with friends and family. He is great at golf and plays with all the boys of the family as often as he can. He has become a pretty good fly fisherman and enjoys spending time by the ocean or a lake working on that sport. Mostly, I love seeing him with my three nephews as he becomes a kid himself again. He plays with them and teaches them so much - whether about sports or life. It excites me to see what a great person he is with children as I know he is going to be a great dad some day.

KAREN Karen was born and bred in Texas. She practices as a pharmacist at a large teaching hospital where she manages the critical care pharmacy. She has experienced many facets of the pharmacy profession but is glad to be working in a hospital where she is focused on patient care.
Our plan is for Karen to enjoy being a stay at home mom and we feel fortunate that we can do that.

WHY JOHN LOVES KAREN
It is truly an honor to know Karen and I feel like the luckiest man in the world to be married to her. She has always given 100% to everything I have seen her do. She performs at the top of her job, is committed to the well being of her family and friends and has volunteered her time to help people she doesn't even know. I have learned a lot about life and compassion from her. She loves animals more than anyone I know and I love to see her express that love. When I watch her around her nephews or Godchildren, I smile. She is wonderful with them and I know she will be a terrific mom. Having the gift of an adopted sister herself, I know she understands the beauty of an adopted child and will love this child with all her heart.

THINGS WE LIKE TO DO
One of the things we like to do is travel - and we love to do that with family and friends. Our families have taken several vacations together where we usually end up by a lake, by the ocean or in the mountains. We like to find places that have something for everyone - water sports, hiking, relaxing and reading, or the beach. During our travels, we have tried to go to places where we can learn about new things. It could be a new kind of food we have never tried or a historical area we have only read about in school. We hope to take our experiences and share them with our children some day, so that they grow up well-rounded, tolerant and happy kids.

BEING ACTIVE
With busy lives, we know it is important to make time for activity and exercise, especially outdoor time. We think it is it important to enjoy the beauty of nature and want our children to understand how important preserving the environment is. We also like to be outside with our dog so she can exercise too! We've lived pretty close to the ocean since we've been married and it has been fun to spend time at the beach. Almost every summer we have been outside enjoying the beautiful summer weather with friends. John has spent some time learning to surf and has found the sport fun and exhausting, as well as a way to relax and be thankful for all our blessings. We have both worked very hard in our careers and are happy to be successful. However, we know how important family and fun time are too! And we take that seriously! We want to share learning experiences, a healthy lifestyle, faith and love with our children. The things we have done in our lives have prepared us to do this. We are ready to become parents!!

RUBY
Our dog, Ruby, has a special place in our hearts. She is a wonderful companion while watching TV or hiking in the woods. She is gentle, sweet and loving - plus lots of fun! She has spent lots of time with our family and friend's children and the kids always enjoy being with her.
OUR HOME After living in "the city" for several years, we bought our first home. Our home is surrounded by wonderful neighbors and nature. We love the outdoor space around our house - the trees, the birds, the yard. We find time spent in our home, yard and neighborhood enjoyable and relaxing. We hope to share that with children soon. Our neighborhood is also close to many parks and hiking trails so it has been easy for outdoor activities to be part of our everyday lives.

OUR FAMILY
As a family, we enjoy gathering at holidays, special occasions and pretty much any time!! On both sides of our family, our grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are a big part of our lives. Our entire family is very supportive and excited about the adoption. They are all looking forward to having a new child in the family to spoil and love! Being part of a big family is a special treat and hanging out with our cousins is always fun. We hope to add to our family and share the wonderful experiences with our children one day. We were raised in loving homes where we were able to learn, express ourselves and experience many different things. We thank our families for those times and know that our upbringing will help us to raise happy, healthy children. We will look to our families for guidance and support (and babysitting!!) when we adopt a child.

SISTERS
It has been Karen's good fortune to have experienced adoption first hand. Karen's older sister, Kristin, was adopted by their parents at 10 days of age. The sister bond has always been very special and strong. Kristin and Karen understood adoption from a very young age and it was always a natural process for the family. We know what a precious gift adoption is and are glad that our parents taught us that. We know our families anticipate the possibility of adoption with hope and excitement. Both John and Karen, with the whole family, have had the opportunity to meet Kristin's birth mom and dad. Their love for Kristin and their selfless decision to choose adoption for her has always been apparent in their actions.

We are very much looking forward to becoming parents of an adopted child and know your thoughtful and selfless act is a blessing. Our child will always know how special he or she is and will know what an incredible heart you have! Thank you for taking the time to get to know us through our profile. We hope that after reading our story, you will feel confident in our ability as parents to love and nurture a child.
