James & Cherie are hopeful adoptive parents from Utah waiting to adopt a baby.
If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

We know we can’t completely understand what you are going through right now. We pray for you, that you will have the understanding and wisdom to know the answers for you and your baby, whatever they may be. We have great respect for you, for the decisions you are considering and for the deep love, faith, and courage it takes to make these choices.
We hope that as you consider families for your child that you will remember us. We are a happy family full of love and laughter. Our children, both adopted, know where they came from. They know they were loved by their first parents before they came to us. We have great respect and gratitude for those who made this life possible for them, both in giving them life, and in placing them with us. We have loved sharing pictures and letters with their birth parents.
Our children are our greatest delight! Our son Daniel, age 6, is an active, fun, happy boy, and lOVES being a big brother. He keeps us all entertained with his energy, imagination and his fun sense of humor. Our daughter Katie is a sweet, delightful little 3 year old. She adores her big brother, and loves to follow him around, copying everything he does. She has a gentle spirit, and is a lot of fun to be with. She loves to dance and sing, play pretend, and climb on our backs for “horsey rides.”
We thoroughly enjoy being parents, and are excited to welcome our next child into our family. We both grew up with brothers and sisters, and know the strength and friendships that are found in families. We are delighted as we watch our children enjoy being partners in mischief, best buddies and eternal friends.
Our children are greatly anticipated not only by us, but also by grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and twenty cousins! We both come from close-knit families, and we love to get together to play any chance we get. Several of our brothers and sisters have young families, so our children will have cousins their age to play and grow up with.
We are both active in our church, and have a strong faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. We enjoy working with the youth program, and are grateful for the strength and joy the Gospel brings into our lives. What great times we have learning and growing together!
Raising truly happy children is the greatest gift we can give back to you and to our Heavenly Father. We also know that this will be life’s greatest challenge. We have made a commitment for Cherie to be a stay-at-home mom and we both devote all of our time, energy and talents to our family. We want our children to grow up enjoying life, discovering the beautiful creations in the world, feeling joy, and having a strong sense of who they are.
Although responsibility and accountability are important, our children will know that we love them unconditionally, no matter what mistakes they may make. We strive to discipline with love and fairness. We have, and will continue to have, many discussions with our children as they learn and mature, and if they ever think a decision is unreasonable, they have the chance to suggest an alternative. Above all our children will grow up knowing how deeply they are loved.
A Little Bit About Our Family...
We want to share a little about each other, so here’s a brief intro into our family:
About Cherie (written by James):
Cherie is very beautiful. I started dating her because of her great looks but quickly discovered that her outside “gorgeousness” is only a small part of a beauty that starts deep inside of her. Her laugh is musical, and she has an amazing depth of love for family and friends. She is kind and thoughtful and very in tune with others’ needs. Cherie is a very strong and capable person, and wants to be the best at everything she does.
Cherie is the coolest mom on the block! She has an endless supply of enthusiasm and ideas for activities for children. I watch in awe as she interacts with our children and their cousins with a deep love and appreciation for them. No matter how young they are, she treats them like they are the most important person in the world as she plays, talks and interacts with them.
Cherie has a very strong testimony of and love for the Savior. Our children will know how much they are loved by Him and by our Heavenly Father because Cherie teaches it through example every day. She is a great mother, and I love her very much.
About James (written by Cherie):
James is a wonderful husband and friend; and a great Dad, too! He is so in love with his children, and they adore their daddy. They run to the door yelling “Daddy! Daddy!” and tackle James with hugs every day when he gets home from work. James sings to and reads with them in the evening before they go to bed. He has always pitched in with the late night (and all night) care, and makes sure we know we’re the most important things in his world. He loves nothing more than to be playing with his family.
From the first time I met my husband I have been impressed with his gentle goodness. In our 11 years of marriage, my respect and love for him has grown even stronger. To many he appears quiet and reserved...but not so! He often makes me laugh so hard I cry. In addition to his great sense of humor and excitement for life, James has a great depth of character. He is kind and respectful to all those around him, and I never hear him say unkind things to or about others. He has a heart of gold, and a beautiful spirit. He is a man of faith, strength and humility. He is always looking for opportunities to serve and to learn. He is my support when things get tough, and my playmate when life is fun. He is my best friend. The twinkle in his eyes when he looks at me makes this world a beautiful place.
About Daniel:
Daniel is the most delightful little boy we know! He loves to be with family, adores his cousins and grandparents and loves to play with other children. He loves to learn, and is active, determined and creative. He’s smart, fun, and the light of our lives! He is so excited to be in Kindergarten this year, and is thrilled that he can read!! He loves to read books to his little sister. He likes to play outside, building various forts and digging for pirate treasure with Katie.
Daniel wants to know what is taking so long. I tried to explain, but he came back with, "Can't they tell that I will be just the greatest big brother?" Later he added, "If they are not sure, they should ask Katie (his little sister). She'll tell them. I am an AWESOME brother."
About Katie:
Katie is the cutest, happiest little girl we have ever seen! And she has such a gentle, sweet disposition. Katie likes to be tickled, cuddled and chased, and loves giving kisses and hugs to her parents and grandparents. She loves to follow her big brother around, and go exploring and on adventures with him. Katie loves to play games, and is a lot of fun to be with.
Katie is a very musical little girl. She can usually be found singing, dancing and/or playing the piano (Yes, she sometimes does all three at once). It gets especially fun when she plays a tune on the piano (which, of course, we can not recognize) and asks us to sing along. If we ask her what song it is, she'll say, "As soon as you sing it, I'll know."
Our Hobbies and Interests
We love to spend time together as a family. We enjoy camping and hiking, and hanging out together playing games, doing home improvements, or just having fun. We love to visit and play with our siblings and cousins. We love outings at the park, and like to go on family bike rides. James takes the children out for breakfast early on most Saturday mornings so Cherie can sleep in, and takes them each on “play dates” for some one on one Daddy time.
We love to travel and have enjoyed visiting fun places every summer and fall since we were married. We have enjoyed history-rich visits to New York City, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and Boston. We have been inspired by such natural wonders as Niagara Falls, the beautiful coral reefs of the Caribbean, and the canyons of Southern Utah's National Parks. We have loved relaxing on the beaches of Maine, Oregon and Mexico, in the rain forests of the Olympic Peninsula, and in the beautiful mountains of Oregon. We have enjoyed white-water rafting in Wyoming, horseback riding on Granddad’s ranch, and gazing at the beautiful Seattle skyline. We love the energy of big cities, and the tranquility of untouched nature. We have had great times playing in Japan, Mexico and Canada, as well as here in the good Ole’ USA. We love to visit and experience the beauty and diversity this world has to offer. We enjoy not only the visits but also the planning and saving for the trips we take as a family each year.
Daniel:
The first thing Daniel says when he gets up in the morning is “Let's PLAY!” He is an energetic and happy boy. He loves sports, wrestling with his family, and playing with his Legos and Rescue Heroes. And he absolutely loves to ride his bike. He is eager to help out around the house: sweeping and "folding" the laundry are his favorites. His favorite games are tackling Mom, and anything that includes a ball, a bat, or his Dad.
Katie:
Katie LOVES to sing! She sings all the time, about anything and everything. Katie also loves to read books, draw and play with play-doh. She loves to play hide and seek, rassle with mom, and pretend she’s a puppy. She also enjoys taking care of her dolls and helping out around the house. Her favorite thing to do is turn on her CD player and get us to join her in singing and dancing to her music.
James:
My greatest interest is my wife. She is my best friend, and a terrific mom who inspires many of our weekend outings and adventures.
I am a movie buff. My favorite movie is “Dead Poet’s Society.” We have discovered a service that edits the “R” out of movies and now one of my favorites is “A Few Good Men.”
I love to watch sports. I like to putter around in the garage, build shelves and fix things. I have been known to get carried away on occasion, building Lego towers twice the height of the children that I am supposed to be playing with. I also love to read. My all time favorite book is "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. I also enjoy our large collection of Louis L'Amour western novels. I love to go camping and hiking, mountain-biking and downhill skiing. My love for the outdoors comes from growing up in scouting. I am an Eagle Scout and loved having my Dad for my Scoutmaster and my brothers in the same troop as me for many years of scout camps, rafting, canoeing and fishing. Now, I enjoy working with the youth in our ward in my calling in the Young Men's program.
Cherie:
My biggest hobby right now is being a mom! I love to watch my children learn and discover new things. I love to play with them and do activities together. I love spending time with family, both our extended family and our own little one. I love the great outdoors; I enjoy camping, hiking, and river rafting. I enjoy woodworking and small crafts (especially if it includes using power tools), and I LOVE watching sports, especially basketball and college football. I like to create photo albums, and look through them with our kids. I also enjoy a good book when I get a chance to read.
Extended Family and other stuff…
Well, we may be biased, but we firmly believe we are part of the best family! Our children have aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents who are fun, good people, and who love each other and our children deeply. Family is the most important thing in our lives.
Most of our children’s cousins are around the same ages as our children, and they love to go to each other’s houses to play. Since many cousins live nearby, we get to do that a lot. Our kids also have several cousins who are older than them, who have set good examples for our children to follow. They are kind, strong young people, who have good, generous hearts. A couple of cousins go to college nearby, and sometimes “kidnap” our children to take on dates to the zoo or museum, or to wherever they happen to be going that day.
We like to play together, and even travel together. We like to go camping with aunts, uncles and cousins, and go hiking and exploring together, too. Uncle Ric is always planning the next adventure for the cousins to go on. And Uncle Steven is always ready to go fishing with anyone who wants to join him.
We also have a network of good friends around us. We live in a neighborhood that does block parties, holiday kid parades, playgroups and where the neighbors are friendly and helpful. Someone is always shoveling someone else’s driveway, or mowing another person’s lawn, and often you will never know who did it. It is fun to be a part of that. We have good friends that we can count on when we need a favor or a listening ear, and enjoy being someone they can depend on, too. We have friends that we go camping with, and have dessert and game nights with.
A little more about Cherie’s Family:
I am the third of four children, and it has been fun to grow up together and be good friends for each other. (I’m not saying that we didn’t fight sometimes when we were kids, but we have become good friends as adults, and enjoy spending time together.) Our children are friends, too, and we all have a great time playing together. My mom is the “late-night queen” and keeps the rest of us up late playing games whenever she can. She says that her favorite blessings in life call her “Grandma.” She spends her time either visiting or planning visits to her grandchildren. She and Granddad host “Grandma’s Camp” every summer, - a weekend of learning, playing, singing and dancing.
I grew up with lots of fun family traditions, especially around the holidays and family get-togethers… camping every summer, Christmas gifts for Jesus, New Year's stockings, and the Valentine Man (you should see this guy)... to name a few.
A little about James’ Family:
I am the youngest of five children. Some of my siblings – our kids’ aunts, uncles and cousins – live nearby, and we enjoy getting together to play, watch sports, or just hang out at each other’s homes. We all get together regularly for family fun, including summer weekends at the lake, family talent shows and, or course, plenty of cousin time.
Cherie and I both come from families that are always there for support and friendship when needed.
Thanks for taking the time to look at our family! If you want to know more, just let us know. We are a loving, fun and devoted family, and pray that our children will find their way to us. We pray for you, that you will know the answers for you and your baby. We know that this is a tough time for you. We admire your faith and courage, and the love that you have for your child.
Gratefully, James and Cherie
