We've Adopted a Daughter
HELLO!!!
We are Jake and Alisa. Although we haven’t met you yet, we sure admire your generosity and courage in this decision. We know that you love your child and want what’s best for him or her.
We have tried to build our family for years, but with recent unfortunate circumstances we will be unable to complete our family with biological children. With my husband having been adopted himself, we have actually always felt that this was the right choice for us. We have a great love for children and can’t wait to raise our own loving family.
About us and our family
We met in September 1998 on a blind date.
We’ll have to tell you about that fun story some time. We went out on a few dates, and then one day Jake brought Alisa to his parents’ house to meet the family and have dinner. After the dinner, Alisa just knew that Jake was “the one.” We were later engaged the night before Halloween. We were on our way to California to visit some friends and spend the weekend at Knotts “Scary” Farm. Then 8 months later in June 1999 we were happily married. We have now been married for 9 wonderful years.
We are very close to both sides of our families. They are also so excited and anxious for us to adopt. We see each other often and talk to them on the phone and computer/webcam frequently. We love playing with our nieces and nephews.
We think we are the favorite Aunt and Uncle!
We are very blessed in our lives to have children around us. We have nieces and nephews that we love to play with and spoil. We have great friends with kids who live near us. We have the opportunity to babysit and spend time with their families. It’s funny because at church the smaller kids see us and say hi to us quite loudly. Sometimes they’ll leave their parents and sit with us. Alisa also has a rewarding career working with children. She's currently a 2nd grade teacher and just loves to see them grow. She loves that she's able to teach them not only the curriculum, but also how to be good, kind and successful people.
Our faith is a big part of our lives. It has allowed us the opportunity to serve others as well as do humanitarian work. We believe in teaching our children the importance of family and moral values. Our children will be raised near other families that have the same values that we instill in our home.
Jake enjoys reading a good book, going dirt bike riding on the weekends, and playing on and building computers. He has fun camping, hiking, and going hunting. He loves learning about diesel technologies and working on his diesel truck. In his spare time you can catch him playing his guitar, saxophone, or piano.
Alisa also enjoys reading books. She loves cooking and baking goodies. She also likes getting together with her mom, sisters or friends to do stamping, card making, scrapbooking, or crafts. She loves working in her garden and seeing her fruit and vegetables grow. Her favorite sports to play are softball and tennis.
My wife, Alisa, is the light of my life. She is everything to me. She is the one who makes my life the wonderful life that it is. She keeps me on track and has always been there to give support when I needed it. She helps me to stay on the straight and narrow path, and for that, I love her dearly. It’s so wonderful that we get along so well, and are able to share time together. We have many of the same favorite pastimes and enjoy spending time together in all that we do. Alisa and I compliment each other in many ways. We have differing strengths that come together and create synergy. I feel that she will make a great mother. She is very structured and disciplined and knows how to reach children.
My husband, Jake, is a very loving and patient man. He helps maintain peace in our home. I love him so much for always respecting me and treating me like a queen. We have a great time spending time together in all our activities. He is definitely my best friend. Jake enjoys playing with children and I feel that he’ll make a wonderful father. He is a hard worker and puts forth his best in all that he does. He was actually adopted himself when he was a teenager. He keeps in contact with his biological mother and siblings as well as his adopted family. He’ll have adoption in common with our children and be able to understand and relate to the feelings our children will go through as he or she grows up.
Activities we enjoy doing together
We have family who live in different states around us, so we enjoy taking road trips often. We love playing games with friends and with one another. We love playing pool against each other. When it’s not so hot in Arizona, we enjoy hiking in the Superstition Mountains or any mountains or trails nearby. We also like to ride our dirt bikes together, travel to new places and do the tourist thing, watch movies, garden, and camp. No matter the activity, as long as we’re together, we’ll have fun!
We have several traditions that we have come to combine from both of our families. Most of the time, the holidays are spent with Alisa's side of the family because we live closer to them. However, there are times that they are spent with Jake's side. During Christmastime, we decorate the tree together right after Thanksgiving Day. On Christmas Eve, we get together with Alisa's side of the family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) and each family is in charge of doing some sort of activity (story, song, etc.). On Christmas morning, we first read the bible story of Jesus’ birth and then we only get to open our stocking gifts. After the stocking gifts, we fix and eat breakfast. We usually trade off with crepes or eggs benedict. When breakfast is over, one person, usually a child, is “Santa”. They are in charge of passing out the gifts to each person. We only have one person open at a time. That way the day lasts longer and we get to see what each person gets. We love it!! We then have a nice dinner. If we’re with Jake’s family, it’s usually Beef Wellington. If we’re with Alisa's family, we usually have Prime Rib. Another tradition is held during Thanksgiving. We always go to Alisa's Grandma’s house and have the traditional foods. There’s always lots of cousins (older and little kids), aunts, uncles and grandparents that come. We usually play a game of volleyball after we eat and then have dessert after the game. It’s a great time for visiting!
Thank you!
We are so excited to meet you and get to know you so that we can tell our (yours and ours) child all about you and how much you love and care about him or her. We will always speak of you with love and kindness. Keeping him or her safe and happy is our goal. Thank you for giving us this chance to become parents!
