David & Jennifer are hopeful adoptive parents from New Jersey waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

About Us We are writing this letter to you because we know you are considering placing your baby with an adoptive family. Naturally, you are interested in knowing if we are the kind of people that could do a really good job at raising your child. So, we’d like to tell you something about ourselves to let you know what our lives are like and what type of home and environment we could offer a child to grow up in.
We feel so lucky to have a loving marriage. We spent a lot of time searching for each other. While we both looked for dates through the usual ways—friends of friends, work, activities—we actually met online. After e-mailing back and forth a few times, we decided to meet for a Friday night dinner date. Since then, we’ve had a great time getting to know each other and thoroughly enjoy being in each other’s company. This is the first marriage for both of us and we’re very thankful that we found each other. Our approach to marriage is to be partners in all the fun experiences and also in getting the work around the house done. For instance, if Dave cooks, then Jennifer will do the clean up. Or, if Jennifer cooks, then Dave cleans up. Overall, while we are husband and wife, we are also best friends.

ABOUT JUSTIN

In early 2007, we were fortunate enough to become parents through the adoption of our son, Justin. Justin has a friendly, happy and loveable disposition. He enjoys spending time outside and plays very well with the other young children on our block. We belong to a pick your own farm where Justin’s favorite past time is picking and eating the raspberries. We know that Justin will make a great big brother to a younger sibling.

ABOUT JEN

I grew up in a rural area with one younger brother and two loving parents. I have many fond memories of my brother and I building blanket forts in the basement by draping old blankets across furniture to make tunnels and caves. We also loved to play in the creek on the edge of our property where we would build small dams and catch crayfish. In the winter, we would go sledding down the local hill trying to dodge the trees and not end up in the creek at the bottom. We are still quite close and I now enjoy spending time with my brother’s son and daughter. I can be a little quiet in certain situations, but have grown through my life experiences over the years into a sensitive, caring, honest individual. After obtaining a degree in biology, I went to work in the pharmaceutical industry.
While I’m a stay at home mother of a toddler, I still have several different hobbies that I enjoy, time permitting. Horseback riding is my favorite way to spend free time. I begged my parents for riding lessons when I was in 6th grade and they finally gave in. Needless to say, I am still hooked. About eight years ago, I was finally able to purchase my first horse. His name is Rusty and he is stabled at a 50 acre farm with seven other horses as well as several sheep, dogs, and cats. Rusty is a quarter horse. We mainly enjoy trail riding, but have done a few entry level competitions. Rusty occasionally gives pony rides so when Dave’s nieces recently visited, they got to take a short guided ride. When the weather is bad, I sometimes curl up on the couch with a good novel, sit down at the piano and play ragtime, or sew.

ABOUT DAVE

I grew up in a small town with two older sisters and one older brother. My parents gave us all the things we needed to succeed, but didn’t spoil us. I was a good kid and didn’t cause my parents too much grief. I wasn’t too keen on starting school though. One of my earliest memories is that of being dragged through the door of my kindergarten room on the first day of class. My mother and my kindergarten teacher were the draggers. Whoever said that women are the weaker sex doesn’t know what they are talking about. A couple of torn rotator cuffs later, I was sitting demurely in my public school issue plastic chair listening attentively to a lecture on the proper use of crayons.
My two sisters each have three children with their husbands and I’m happy to say that we have five nieces and one nephew. We keep in touch by phone and e-mail and plan our get-togethers either over the summer or over a major holiday. My brother lives about an hour from us and we are able to see him more frequently.
I went to engineering school and, during my time at school, I was a member of the Judo team. I now work as an engineering manager for a medical firm.
I was fairly shy growing up and learned to become more outgoing during my college years. I’ve always enjoyed activities that are fun to do and also keep you physically fit. At the moment, I like to bicycle in the hills around town.
Our lifestyle We like to travel and have been fortunate enough to be able to take several trips since we’ve met. We’ve been to Florida, England, Hawaii, Alaska, and Ireland so far and we’ll be making plans for our next adventure soon. We also enjoy tackling home improvement projects together. We’ve improved our house by updating a bathroom and a kitchen, and are working on planting some new shrubs in the front of the house. We both enjoy spending time with our families. We cherish our weekends together as a family and are always a little sad when Monday rolls around.
This past year we went camping for the first time. Tent living was a new experience for us, but something we plan on repeating next summer. We also spend a lot of time at the beach building sandcastles and taking walks on the boardwalk.
Our Home We live in a small town of about 1800 people. The town is surrounded by open space including a borough park, which is within walking distance from our house. After a recent snowstorm, we walked to the town park and took advantage of the tracks others had made to use our cross-country skis. While we are rank beginners, we both managed to stay upright for most of the adventure. In the summer, the town hosts Friday night concerts in the park where lots of families come to listen to some great music. The children in town enjoy dancing in front of the gazebo where the bands set up. Oh, and we can’t forget about the town wide yard sale that is a great hunt for bargains or, as some would term it, other peoples ‘jewels’. Then there are the Saturday night movies at the train station and the Memorial Day Parade where the fire engines and old cars all line up to parade through town. We really like where we live and enjoy participating in the community events.
In Closing Please know that if you place your child for adoption with us, they will be given a loving, caring home. We believe the gift of a child is special and will do our best to raise our children to have opportunities to see the world, explore new things, and to fulfill their dreams. We respect the decision that you make. We plan to be open about the adoption and about your courage in making this adoption plan. We had a wonderful relationship with our son’s birthmother and we send her photos and letter updates.
