Steve & Allyson are hopeful adoptive parents from Utah waiting to adopt a baby.
If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Dear Friends,
We bet you never thought you would be on the internet researching whether adoption was right for you and your baby. Life throws some amazingly tough curveballs...
Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers every day. We hope you are safe. We hope you have the support of your family and friends. We hope you know how much we admire your courage to look at whether adoption is right for you and your child.
We would like to introduce ourselves and give you an idea of who we are if you were to choose adoption and us as parents for your child. So here goes…
We are Steve, Allyson, and Maya. We have been married seven years and live in a suburban community in Utah. Steve, with his cousin, owns a small business and Allyson is a medical social worker who works two weekends a month and is a stay at home mom. We adopted Maya in 2007. She was born in Illinois. We traveled there and got to spend time with her birth mom whom we love and respect. We have pictures of her and her birth brothers where Maya can see them. We send letters and pictures and we sent a video showing Maya’s first year. We also talk on the phone every so often.
Interests And Hobbies
We love going to plays and musicals. We enjoy going to college football and basketball games. (Steve: That is one of Allyson’s sacrifices for me. Allyson: I’m kind of starting to like them, but don’t tell Steve.) We like to travel. A few of the places we love to visit are Tennessee, San Diego, and South Dakota. We try to take a few small trips a year. We love to see random things. For our next adventures, we are planning on driving through a tree in the Redwood Forest, howling with wolves in Minnesota, and midnight turtle hatching in North Carolina. (Allyson: How’s that for random?)
Television is not a huge part of our lives. When we do sit down in front of the TV, we like to watch movies and our favorite television shows on DVD, which are Frasier, Monk, and Everybody Loves Raymond. We are not fans of reality television, but we make an exception for So You Think You Can Dance. We get so into it and we have debates about why certain people should advance or which judge is out of line. We love it!
We love libraries and spend a lot of time there. We both enjoy reading and our library is cool because they bring in family friendly entertainment such as magicians. We recently saw the 1996 Yo-Yo champion and went to an exotic animal night where Maya got to touch a 5 foot snake, a gigantic dog, and a baby goat. Talk about awesome!
Steve: I love to mow the lawn and wash the cars. I like to do crossword puzzles. I enjoy working on my computer. I like listening to classic rock in my car where I can crank up the volume.
Allyson: I love to work in the garden and grow everything from flowers to weeds to vegetables. I like to put together jigsaw puzzles as long as they are under 1000 pieces. Anything over and I'm lost. I also enjoy making braided rag rugs.
Maya: Mommy and Daddy are going to help me write this because I'm still little. I love my Mommy and Daddy and give them kisses and hugs all the time. I love my kitties and I give them lots of kisses and hugs, too. I love Elmo and my favorite movies are A Bug's Life and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. My favorite thing to do is read stories. I love to be around other kids and I share all my snacks with them.
Our Family And A Little More About Us...
We have a very happy marriage. Our personalities complement each other well. Where Allyson is a strong-willed go-getter, Steve is a laid-back peacemaker. We believe the keys to our happiness in marriage are open communication (Allyson: We talk about everything. Steve: Even when I don’t want to.), having goals to work toward, and our love of the Savior. We both learned how to work hard and will model a strong work ethic for your child. We place great value on education. (Steve: Allyson refused to marry me without a college degree. Allyson: Yep, and now he has a wife and a college education.)
We have lots of family traditions. We rotate our Sunday dinners between our families and us. When we have Sunday dinners at our house, we use our best china and make a dessert. On the 4th of July we go to a hot air balloon festival, have a barbeque, and watch the big fireworks at the park. Thanksgiving is full of family and food. On Christmas, we wake up early in the morning and have our own gift exchange before going to Allyson’s mom’s house so Steve can make waffles for the family. (Allyson: My family had never had waffles until I married Steve.) Steve’s family gathers in the afternoon and we have Christmas dinner with them.
Allyson makes dinner almost every night, but when it is Steve’s turn he is very good at making mac and cheese and ramen. (Steve: Hey! I am a master of the grill. Allyson: That’s true. He makes a mean steak.) We eat dinner at the kitchen table and this gives us time to talk and get caught up on the day’s events.
Steve: (Allyson talking about Steve) There were two things that first attracted me to Steve. Number 1: His voice. He has the most soothing voice. It is kind and sweet. Number 2: The laugh lines around his eyes. I knew wrinkles meant he smiled and laughed a lot and I wanted to be with someone who is a happy person. Steve has a wonderful sense of humor and laughs often. He is perfect for me because he takes life as it comes and rarely gets stressed. He is easy to talk to and gets along with anyone.
Steve: I grew up in Utah and am the youngest of four boys. My oldest brother is adopted. He and the other two wore my parents out so by the time I came along I could do anything I wanted. Thank goodness for my brothers! My oldest brother is married and has three children who we see often. I have another brother who is married and has three children, but they live several states away so we stay close through phone calls and email. And brother number three is married and has a dog named Charlotte. I have great memories of my childhood. I loved going to K-mart with my mom to pick out a shiny new Matchbox car, a pack of baseball cards to add to my collection, or the latest Billy Joel album. I also loved to play sports and go on bike rides and hikes with my friends. I received an Associate’s degree from a community college. From there, I was accepted to a university and received a Bachelor’s degree in Consumer and Community Studies with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies.
Allyson: (Steve talking about Allyson) Allyson is spunky and succeeds in everything she puts her mind to. (That can translate to stubborn occasionally, but she is amazing.) She has a great sense of humor. She is optimistic even when things aren’t going well. She has a beautiful voice and I love it when she sings to me. She gave me the motivation to finish college. In every way she inspires me to be a better man.
Allyson: I am the oldest of six kids and grew up in rural Tennessee. My family is loud, fun, likes to laugh, and gets together frequently. We are a very affectionate family and say “I love you” to each other often. There is never a dull moment when my family is around. As the oldest, I have been able to teach my siblings all kinds of important things like how to go in for a kiss, how to unclog toilets, and how to drive. I have a brother who is divorced and has a little boy, another brother attending college and looking for that special someone, and a third brother who is living at home and trying to decide what path in life he should take. I have two sisters, one is in her first year of college and the other is a high school senior. As a child, my younger brothers and I spent hours exploring the fields, creeks, and woods that surrounded our home. I loved going to the library and visiting Civil War battlefields. I was involved in 4-H and won awards at county fairs. I was also involved in music and drama in high school and college. I attended a junior college and received an Associate’s degree. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Masters degree in Social Work.
Our Promise To You...
We will cherish your child. We will give your child the opportunity to participate in music lessons, sports, dance, and anything else they want to try. We will play with them daily and read to them nightly. We will take your child to the library for story time and to the park so they can fly kites. We will teach your child how to swim, ride bikes, and make mud pies. We will love your child unconditionally and make sure they know how much love you have for them. We will answer any questions they have about their adoption story honestly and with compassion. We will read two bedtime stories, kiss their boo-boos twice, and cheer twice as loud, once for us and once for you.
With Love,
Steve and Allyson
