Our Story – The Very Beginning
17 years ago, we met in college, at Penn State, and were instantly great friends! We always talked for hours…and hours…about anything. We had so much fun spending time together, going for walks around campus, out to lunch or dinner, concerts, the movies, or even going to our college’s football games.
During our time dating, we especially loved spending time with each other’s families. Our parents live within one hour of each other, which was great! Nick has two brothers and Cheryl has two sisters, so we always enjoyed sharing family stories. It’s so interesting, and funny when we compare the “little things” growing up with boys vs. girls…traditions with the holidays, the size of a piece of cake,…and of course, the amount of time required to get ready to go anywhere. Beyond these funny things, we knew from the beginning that our values were very similar…placing family, faith and friends first. In so many ways, we believed that we were “mean to be together.” Soon, we were engaged.
Love and Happiness...
After about a year of planning (which was a lot of fun!), we were married, in July of 1998 in Cheryl’s hometown. What a special and magical summer day! We both say, that it was truly one of the “best days of our life”, marrying our best friend, the love of our life…and being surrounded by our loved ones…all in one place, at one time. We have such great memories.
Our relationship is very special, as we share life’s greatest moments as well as challenging times. We make decisions together, as we grow and move forward in our lives, and believe that we can accomplish anything together. We look forward to sharing our blessings and dreams with children.
Special Things About Us
Nick About Cheryl~
From the first time I met Cheryl, I just loved her cheerful personality that radiates kindness and her gentle heart. She is very patient, compassionate, and giving, taking time to appreciate that “small things” really do make a “big difference.” She is a wonderful wife and mother who has such great dedication with all that she does.
Cheryl has a gift for inspiring others, and communicating with children. Whether it’s taking time to read a book, run and laugh, color, play, or just talk, she loves every moment. I truly believe that children sense this and are at ease with her. Also, as an Elementary Art Teacher in a local school district, she has the magical way of helping and motivating all kids to achieve and discover amazing things as they learn and grow. It will be fun over the years to see Cheryl guide our children to use and develop their own special talents and creativity, as they explore their interests. The choices and opportunities are endless!
A few more things to share about Cheryl…She loves to read, take walks, and exercise. Good health is important to her. She can beat me in a casual game of tennis and throws a football better than any girl I have ever seen. Also, Cheryl is very creative. She loves to do projects, and has enjoyed painting and decorating our home, as well as adding creative touches to our landscaping. She loves being outdoors, especially in the summer. Cheryl also cherishes time to just be together. She truly compliments me and inspires me to be the best person I can be. My greatest accomplishments are attributed to her love, devotion and support…
Cheryl About Nick~
Nick is a thoughtful, caring husband, and an amazing father. He loves to spend time with Nathaniel, our niece, godchildren, and children of our friends and neighbors. Putting his remarkable sense of humor to great use, he loves playing games, reading (or making up a story), catching ball, or just being silly. I love him so much for always putting others first. His caring personality always shines through with his colleagues at work. He is a Director of Financial Planning for a local gas company. Nick has a gift for inspiring his staff, collaborating with them to strive to achieve common goals, and makes work fun.
Other interesting things about Nick...He loves to “putter around the house” and get into all kinds of “projects” (changing the oil in the cars, re-organizing the garage, and so many other things). He can fix virtually anything! He loves to read (especially about history), play his guitar, watch football, exercise and swim. When we’re on vacation, he even loves to snorkel ~ and is like a fish himself! Also, Nick loves going camping, enjoying time to rest, relax, hike, and bike. As a family, we enjoy these things together.
Nick is truly the love of my life. He is such a giving and encouraging person, always having a positive outlook on life and its adventures. He sometimes surprises me with a simple little note, just to say, “I love you”, and often takes time out from whatever he is doing to simply share a hug. All in all, Nick compliments me, and his love motivates me to be the best person that I can be, as we support each other in life’s endeavors.
Meet Nathaniel~ Future Big Brother
As we share our story, Nathaniel is a curious, energetic, and imaginative toddler who is happy all the time! On August 6, 2007, he was born. We were brought together through the miracle of adoption. Nathaniel captured our hearts, and his birth mother will always be such a special person and blessing.
Nathaniel will be a great big brother, a best buddy. He is kind, confident, and funny, loves to laugh, run and play, read books, listen to music and dance. Nathaniel truly finds amazement and wonder in the simple things in life, and often reminds us that these are the most important…a smile, hug, being silly, or just being together. Nathaniel looks forward to sharing his favorite activities, his life, and his love with a sibling. Or, as he would say…share his stuffed animals, books, balls, bikes, puzzles, blocks, trucks, crayons, sled, big blue tent and sandbox.
Our Families and Home
Our parents have taught us so many things that have helped us to become the people we are today. Most importantly, others always come first, and anything can be achieved with ambition, patience, and humility. Our parents are great role models who have provided a lifetime of support with things, big and small ~ school, activities, career decisions, our wedding, building our home, our first adoption, and so much more. We are grateful that our parents live close by.
Our siblings are so special to us. We all have such great memories from our childhood, and cherish our relationships as adults. We are thankful that most of our siblings, their spouses and families live nearby. It is wonderful to know that our children will have the opportunity to grow up together.
Family Fun~ All of us, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, too, enjoy each other’s company. Every celebration or event is special-- birthdays, anniversaries, exciting achievements, cookouts, vacations (quite often to the beach!), going to the movies, park, museums, theater or sporting events. Although, we all agree that the simple family times are usually the source of our favorite memories…just getting together and spending time talking, laughing, and playing with the kids. : )
Home Sweet Home
Our cheerful and cozy home is in a neighborhood with so many families. We are thankful to have neighbors as close friends. It is fun to have get-togethers, share every day things, and important for all of our children to be safe as they play. In addition, we love living in close proximity to parks with playgrounds, a lake, and pool, as well as many other places for family recreation, and our church.
A Few Closing Thoughts...
Thank you for taking the time to look at our pictures and read about us and our families. As parents, we look forward to sharing a happy, nurturing home with our future growing family. Our heartfelt prayers and wishes of peace are with you.
With much love, Nick and Cheryl
