Our Thoughts...
Our Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter. Thank you for considering adoption. We can only imagine the feelings you are having at this time. Perhaps our family is the right one for your precious child. Please read on to learn a little about us.
Our Beginning...
Dave: Our story begins when we met while attending Brigham Young University. I met Aimee when I went to pick her roommate up for a blind date. When Aimee and I met, it felt like I had known her for a long time. I never felt the awkwardness with her that people often feel when they meet for the first time. It was the most natural thing in the world for us to spend time together, and eventually marry.
Aimee: Meeting Dave felt like "going home." From almost the moment we met, I felt like we had been long time friends. It didn't take us long to fall in love. We were married in the spring of 1995. During our first married year, we lived in a "humble" basement apartment and learned the real meaning of being "poor college students." We had fun finding bargains and inventing inexpensive living and entertaiment ideas.
Dave: After we were married, Aimee was very supportive and helped me to graduate quickly with my Bachelors in Molecular Biology. After all of her sacrifices to get me graduated, it was my turn to help Aimee finish school. BYU didn't have the American Sign Language Interpreting program she had become interested in, so when she was accepted to a program in the Northwest, I quit my job and we moved. During the relocation transition for Aimee, I took the opportunity to do something that I had wanted to do for a long time - I joined the Military Reserves, which would allow me to contribute to the greatest nation on the earth. After 12 years, I am still proud to wear the US Army uniform one weekend a month. My current unit is involved in protecting both our country and military from weapons of mass destruction.
Aimee: While in the Northwest, Dave worked for a bio-technology company that specialized in improving ways that doctors and researchers identify genetic illnesses. I completed and began working as an educational interpreter for the Deaf. After only one year as an Interpreter for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in an elementary school, we were thrilled with the adoption of our oldest daughter, Alyssa. It was very important to spend my time with my daughter, so I immediately quit my job to be a stay-at-home Mom. I was estatic! Alyssa instantly stole our hearts, adoption was truly a miracle in our lives. Time flew by quickly, and before we knew it, Alyssa was 2 1/2 and through adoption, we were welcoming sweet Ashley into our lives.
Our Now...
Dave: As a father and husband, I have tried to show a great amount of love. My wife and children all know how much they are loved. I have also tried to instill the importance of continued personal development of each family member. Aimee has also worked hard to teach the girls a desire to be kind and generous to others. As a family, some of our priorities include spending time together doing fun stuff like swimming and rock climbing, enjoying dinner together almost nightly, exercising, doing kind things for others and getting away for family vacations.
Aimee: For fun, Dave enjoys raising rare, exotic fish - it helps bring out the scientist in him. As an athlete and soldier, Dave enjoys triathlons and the personal challenge that they offer. I also enjoy triathlons, but the shorter, "sprint" distance ones. Dave's races are full length and involve a 1 mile swim, 26.2 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run. Mine are .25 mile swim, 15 mile bike and 3.5 mile run. I also love to create digital scrapbook pages on my computer. Friends sometimes call me "Martha" because I like to do so many crafty things - primarily cooking, sewing Halloween costumes and hosting fun parties!
Alyssa: My name is Alyssa. I am nine years old. I like to ride my bike and swim. I even raced in a triathlon this summer! It was fun! I love to read by the fireplace. My Mom says I am good at drawing. I like playing our new computer that is just for the kids! I love to use my imagination. My favorite thing to do at the park is swing on the swings. I never want to leave the swings because I feel like that Peter Pan will come to me (while on the swings) and ask me if I believe in him. I think my Mom is the best cooker ever! She rocks on food! I love to get horsy rides and bag rides from my dad. I have a little sister Ashley. I love her because she is nice to me.
Ashley: My name is Ashley and I am six years old. I love to ride my bike around the lake with my sister. My Mom runs behind us, but we are faster than her. I like going rock climbing. I used to be scared, but not anymore. I can go to the very top all by myself! I like playing with My Little Ponies. I have a lot of them. My favorite food is spinach ravioli, pizza and cake. I like to smell roses. We went to SeaWorld and Disney World, that was so awesome! I like to play Webkinz on the computer. When I grow up, I want to be a technology teacher. I like piggy rides and muscle rides from my Dad. I am a good helper for my Mom. I like to help her cook. I love my sister Alyssa because she is funny.
Our Future...
We are so excited about welcoming a new baby into our family. Alyssa is anxious to be able to help take care of a new little sibling. Ashley is excited to play with a new little brother or sister. There are also lots of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of another baby into our home. There are even adopted cousins on both sides of the family; cousins who will grow up with the shared experiences of being adopted. The children who come into our home will be certainly be showered with love.
Our children will know from the start concerning their adoption story. We believe it is important for them to know about those who love them so much. We can not find words to express the immeasurable gratitude that we feel for the Birth Parents of our two lovely daughters and the courageous decisions they made to allow our family to grow. In fact, we wanted all our friends and family to know of the admiration we feel for our Birth Parents, our daughter's birth announcement read:
Beautiful baby loved twice - A gift of one girl's sacrifice
Mirror the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Truly, placing a child for adoption is one of the greatest of sacrifices. As with our daughters, we will be very generous with letters and pictures. We recognize the difficult situation you have in choosing a home for your precious baby - and the importance of choosing wisely. We pray for the very best for you and your child.
God Bless,
Dave, Aimee, Alyssa & Ashley
