We're Adopting a Girl.
About Us...
Hi, we are David and Marlinda. Thank you for taking time to learn a little more about us. We can only imagine how difficult this decision and situation must be for you. We truly honor the love, courage and thoughtfulness you have for your unborn child in considering adoption as a plan.
Here is a quick look into our lives and family. We met at work and quickly developed a wonderful friendship. We carpooled together to and from work and during our commute, we really got to know each other and developed a strong friendship. Soon after, we began dating, fell in love and were married two years later. We have been married since 2001. We have a strong marriage based on love, friendship, kindness and trust. We are very close and do most things together. We have a lot of fun, laugh a lot and both have a great sense of humor.
Since our marriage, we have wanted to have children together. Because of infertility, we are unable to have a biological child. We are excited to begin the adoption process!
We are both the giving type and can’t wait to share our love with children. We enjoy going out to dinner, shopping, simple nights at home together watching a movie and working on home projects. We live in a newer subdivision and our home backs up to a toddler park where there is lots of activity with neighborhood children. We take a vacation each year, usually somewhere near the water, as we both love sunshine, boogie boarding and swimming in the ocean.
We have two English Sheepdogs, Rosey and Sophey. They look like teddy bears and act like couch potatoes. The older one lies around all day while the younger one loves to chase tennis balls and play with other dogs in the neighborhood.
About Marlinda
I grew up in Michigan and had a very happy childhood. I enjoy gardening, cooking, aerobics, concerts, reading and taking long walks with our dogs. I am also a big Detroit Piston fan and enjoy going to games when we can. One of my favorite things to do is to entertain family and friends in our home and prepare nice dinners. I also have my aesthetician (skin care) license. I have a small room set-up in our home that I use to give family and friends relaxing facial treatments.
I earned a degree in Psychology at Oakland University. After graduation from college, I moved to Colorado for 10 years. David and I moved back to Michigan in 2006. It feels good to be back in Michigan and close to my family. I have worked as an executive assistant for the past 14 years for several large corporations.
I have always wanted to have children and can’t wait to parent and care for a child. I love taking care of other people and making them happy, and believe I will make a great mother. I am excited about all the responsibility and work that comes with having children, even getting up in the middle of the night to feed them! I look forward to raising children with David as he is so giving, helpful and thoughtful. David and I are thankful that when a child comes into our lives, I will be a stay-at-home mom.
I am really close to my mom, dad and sister, and all of them are very excited about our plans to adopt. I have a niece and a nephew (with me in the photo above) who I adore and spoil. My nephew is even a little concerned about the adoption, because he worries some of “his” attention will be given to the new baby! I also have a great extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. We always have a good time when we get together. My family is very important to me and I love spending time with them.
David's thoughts about Marlinda...
I was originally attracted to Marlinda’s personality, she is out-going and easy to get along with. She has a great sense of humor and is respectful of others. We love laughing together and I have never been happier than when we are together. Her strengths are the fact that she is very supportive of others and is always honest. I feel I have been blessed to have Marlinda in my life and truly value the close bond we have together.
About David
I was born in California and lived there until I moved to Colorado in 1989. My mother, sister, and one brother still live in southern California, along with many extended family members. I also have a brother who lives in Indiana.
My interests and hobbies include fishing, walking, music, movies, landscaping, and doing minor home repairs. Michigan is new to me and I really like it. I like exploring the towns up north and being near the water. Since moving here, I have become a huge Detroit Red Wings fan!
I obtained an Associate degree in General Education from a junior college in California. While beginning my work toward a bachelor’s degree, I secured a full-time job and decided to discontinue school. I’ve had a successful career as a Safety Manager for an energy company and have been in my current position for more than 15 years. I am fortunate to be able to work from our home most of the time.
I have three children from a previous marriage, a daughter and two sons. I was awarded sole custody of my children, and raised them on my own since they were 8, 10, and 13. I am very fortunate to have been blessed with such good children. I look forward to raising children with Marlinda so we can experience the joys of parenthood together. My hope is to provide a child a loving home life with two parents as I know how challenging it is to raise children as a single parent.
My two sons live in Colorado and my daughter lives in California. They have successful careers and are doing very well. We remain very close by telephone and email and see each other as often as we can. They are all excited about our plans to adopt!
Marlinda's thoughts about David...
I was first attracted to David because he was mature, polite, handsome and a good friend. I was also impressed that he had raised three children on his own and devoted the majority of his time to his family. While dating, he would send me flowers and cards, bring me lunch and do all sorts of other small things that really showed he cared and loved me. We are very comfortable with each other and can be ourselves at all times. David is a very laid back person. He is extremely giving and caring, always putting the needs of others before his own. He has a great sense of humor and is very likable. David’s strengths are his confidence and the ability to make me feel like everything will be ok no matter what happens.
