If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Congratulations!
Adoption in Progress.

About Us Our names are Ted and Meredith and we want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.

We met 14 years ago, during our freshman year at a major Midwestern university. Meredith developed a bit of a crush on “Officer Ted” (he became a campus cop) and Ted liked her too (despite the awful New Jersey perm she sported.) We became friends in 1995 and maintained our friendship for the next three years. During the summer we would send each other letters and birthday cards. When we returned to school in the fall, we met up every few months for lunch or dinner. When we were seniors, we did date briefly but went our separate ways after graduation. In 2002, Ted called Meredith for the first time in years and she invited him to come for a visit. (Did not think he would come – he’d never been to the East Coast!) Officer Ted did come for a visit and in November of 2003, we tied the knot!

Since our initial meeting in 1999, we both graduated from college and started advanced degrees. Although Meredith’s MBA was put on hold when we moved to Germany with the Air Force, Ted obtained his law degree and passed the Bar. Our parents paid for our education and we’ll make sure to do the same for our child. Today, Ted continues to work for the federal government while Meredith works as a Manager for a major corporation. Meredith’s company offers a generous time-off program for adoption while Ted’s job allows him the flexibility to be a really hands-on dad. After 5 years of marriage and 4 years of unexplained infertility, we are ready to bring a child or twins into our family!

Family is super important to both of us. Ted’s identical twin brother, Jeff, has two young girls, ages 2 and 4. His family lives less than two hours away so we get to be Aunt Mere and Uncle Ted on a pretty regular basis. Meredith’s family is a short plane ride away; we’re looking forward to packing up our family for trips to see them (especially in the Winter!) in sunny Florida. They are looking forward to becoming grandparents for the first time. Meredith’s sister, Alison, is four years younger than she and is so excited to become an aunt. We both grew up with holidays full of extended family and look forward to more of the same with our little one.

Today, we live on a tree-lined street in a university town in the Midwest. It’s a great place to raise a family. Living near a big school gives us the opportunity to attend football games, basketball games, concerts, and the theater so our child will have first-hand experience of all the fun that college has to offer. One of our favorite things to do is spend time at home together on the couch with our two pugs, Kenzie and Barney. When we’re not watching movies, we like to watch NCAA football, basketball, and Modern Family. Meredith set a goal to visit all 50 states and we’re more than halfway there. We’re excited to bring our child along to the remaining 14 states and, once we’re done, start over from the beginning!

About Ted (According to Meredith) When I dated Ted back in college, I was attracted to his sense of humor, intelligence, and general hunkiness. When we reunited a few years later, I fell in love with his strength, ambition, and devotion to his family. Ted has always been very driven: I’ve seen him progress from a campus cop to Special Agent with the Department of the Treasury, to an Air Force Officer, to his current role as an Attorney with the Federal Government. Ted’s great at work and even better at home. He really enjoys working out in the yard and washing the cars. I can totally picture him in the driveway with a little helper by his side. Kenzie and Barney, our pugs, love to squeeze into each side of his “man chair” to snooze while he plays Xbox. He’s a great athlete who also has a deep appreciation for American history. I’d like to know half the things he does about World War Two. On the other hand, our two nieces can attest to the fact that he is an ideal guest at a tea party. Ted has been the best part of my life over the last six years and I’m so excited to watch him become a dad.
About Meredith (According to Ted) Although initially mesmerized by her perm, I immediately recognized Meredith as more than a cute girl. I recognized her intelligence, wit, and ambition. I realized she was as strong, if not more so than I. I also loved the fact that she had no problem voicing her opinion when she believed in an issue. Meredith is very driven, and has maintained a very successful career despite our moves while I was in the Air Force. I believe this is a testament to her commitment and devotion. Her devotion has made her a wonderful wife and will make her a wonderful mother. Meredith is also very caring and compassionate. Meredith has volunteered her time with the local animal shelter, giving up many of her Saturdays to see sheltered animals find a loving home. She loves to decorate our home and take Barney, our pug, for a run. I can easily picture her packing our child into a jogging stroller and running everyone to the nearby park. Meredith has been the best part of my life over the last six years and she is going to be a great mom.
Our Commitment to You and Your Child Whether they are traveling somewhere new, making plans to go to college, or just hanging out at home, your child will be loved. We’ll give them every opportunity that we had and then some. They will never have to question our devotion, and, more importantly, will never have to question yours. They will always know how very much you wanted the best for them and how you chose us to help make that happen. Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that, if you decide to move forward with an adoption plan, you will consider making us a part of it.
