Michael & Amy are hopeful adoptive parents from Oregon waiting to adopt a baby.

If you are pregnant and considering placing your child for adoption, please read the following Dear Birthmother Letter.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile. We appreciate that you are considering placing your child for adoption, and we recognize the love you have for your baby and your desire to do what is best for him or her.

Our lives have been incredibly blessed by adoption. The joy and happiness that our first adoption has brought into our home and into our family is indescribable, and we love our son so much. He is a really good-natured, happy kid who would make an awesome big brother. Having adopted once before, we have a better appreciation for the importance of having a good relationship with birth parents, and we would look forward to having a solid relationship with you. We have an open adoption with our son's birthmother and we have scheduled visits with her that we always enjoy. We also stay in contact through letters and pictures.

Our family has witnessed other blessings that come from adoption first-hand. Recently we learned that Amy’s mom placed a son for adoption when she was 18 years old. Talking with her about her experience and the emotions she felt at the time has deepened our appreciation for birth parents. When she placed her son, the adoption process was very closed and she had no idea who was going to receive him. Likewise, the adoptive parents didn’t know anything about the birth mother or father. A few years ago, Amy’s mother was finally reunited with her son and they have really enjoyed getting to know each other. Watching this process unfold has made us excited about having a more open relationship with you as birth parents. We understand the importance of your child always knowing where they came from, including learning about you and your loving sacrifice.
Prior to us meeting at Idaho State University, Mike served a church mission in the Dominican Republic and Amy went to culinary school and worked as a tour guide in Alaska. We dated for three years, and during that time we each spent time studying abroad in Spain. The summer before our senior year of college we got married and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico where we both worked for the summer. After we graduated from ISU, we took a vacation to Peru to see Machu Picchu. We moved to Michigan for Mike to attend school and while we were there we visited Chicago, Niagara Falls, and Sandusky, Ohio (home of the world’s most awesome amusement park — Cedar Point). Later we lived in Colorado for a year where we enjoyed camping, hiking, and skiing and snowboarding in the amazing Colorado Rockies. Since moving to Oregon, we have had fun sightseeing in Portland and visiting the coast, and we have taken fun trips to California, Las Vegas, and Florida. We continue to enjoy traveling, especially to Spanish-speaking countries and are always saving up for our next big adventure.

Education is also very important to us. Mike got his master’s degree at the University of Michigan in healthcare administration, and Amy got her master’s degree in human resources and adult education at the University of Idaho. Mike is currently the CEO of a county health district and Amy enjoys staying home full-time to care for our son. Learning all types of things is important to both of us. For example Mike is currently teaching himself to play the guitar and Amy recently learned how to make jewelry.
After living in Michigan and Colorado, we’re really excited to be living in the Northwest again. Mike is a snowboarder and Amy is a skier, so we have a lot of fun trying out new and different ski resorts each winter. During the summer, we enjoy going hiking and camping. Michigan football is a must for us during the fall, and we recently discovered how much we enjoy hockey games during the winter. Since moving to Oregon, we have been experimenting with growing our own vegetable garden, which has been going a lot better since we put up a fence to keep out the deer. Mike loves music and is always trying to get Amy to like whatever new indie-alternative band he has recently discovered. Amy’s passion is food, whether it’s trying out new restaurants or staying home and experimenting with new recipes. We especially love Mexican food, and Mike considers himself to be a salsa connoisseur.
We’re both the oldest child in our families and we have always been excited to have a family of our own. Amy has two brothers and two sisters and Mike has two brothers. Everyone has been very supportive of us and they’re all really excited to welcome someone new into the family.

Everyone in our entire family loves our son and always wants to spend time with him. He's a very fun little boy and he loves being around people. He loves running around the house and going on walks around town. He always is cheerful and he likes animals. As he gets older he gets more and more curious, and we love spending time with him and teaching him new things. He's very good with other children and we have no doubt that he will be an amazing older brother.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity we have had to be parents to our amazing son, and look forward to the possibility of being able to adopt another child someday. We truly love and appreciate our son’s birthmom, and all parents who make the difficult decision to place a child for adoption. We wish you all the best during this time and we look forward to possibly hearing from you.

Take Care,

Mike and Amy
