This week we celebrated Zach's birthday with a homemade dump truck cake. It was definitely a labor of love! Zach's grandparents and uncle were champs about helping us to frost everything, assemble the little axles and wheels, and crush cookies for the "dirt." The cake looked a bit better than it tasted, but it was well worth the effort. Zach's eyes got VERY wide when he saw it, and his smile was even wider.

Summer is almost here and that means it's watermelon season! It's a favorite family treat--and it also makes for great photos! We really like photography. Right now we're working on a collage of photos representing all the colors of the rainbow for our playroom. We're thinking a close up of this photo might be good for the band of red(?) At the very least it's a great reminder that the slow days of summer are right around the corner!

This weekend included a trip to the National Arboretum, where we explored the huge grounds and had a picnic. The Japanese gardens were amazing and made us want to get to work on our own yard this summer! Zach just wanted to run and cover every inch of the place, but we did manage to stop long enough for a few photos.

What a great weekend, despite all of the rain. Yesterday we went over to some friends' home for a bbq and watched the kids run around and have a great time. It is amazing to watch Zach with other kids. Today we got really creative and played with finger paints and set up the "indoor sandbox." This is a game that Jill made up where Zach takes dried beans and stones and pours them from one container into another and into another. He is mesmerized! We also spent an hour splashing around in puddles. Lots of fun.

We are very excited to begin the adoption journey!
