Happy 4th of July! We went to a family BBQ and then to a pool birthday party for our godson. Sam loves the water and had fun swimming with his many cousins. He loves to run and play with other kids.

We all attended Bob's business conference in Cincinnati this weekend. We spent a day at the "Beach Waterpark" and had fun riding the water slides with Sam. We also visited the "Newport Aquarium" and saw stingrays and sharks swimming right over our heads! --- Really cool!

On Sunday, we drove through central Indiana and spent "A Day Out with Thomas". We were so lucky to have been traveling through the Indianapolis area just when this show was in town for the weekend. We actually rode the train and Sam was so excited to see the real-life-sized Thomas the Engine train.

The picture on the bottom right looks like a postcard but is actually our view of the Ohio River and Cincinnati skyline from our restaurant Friday night. It was so nice to get away and spend this long weekend together as a family.

We went to a resort in Sheboygan, Wisconsin this weekend and rented a lake-front house with 2 of Bob's siblings along with their families. 2 1/2 year old Sam had a blast with his cousins at the water park next door. He was so fearless going down the kiddie slide --- even after going briefly under water on the way down (which made my (Nancy's) heart skip a beat!!!). Each time he just stood up and said "Again, Again!".

This picture is a sunset view from our balcony overlooking Lake Michigan. Ahhhh! So relaxing. The view was peaceful and beautiful. We had a great time playing cards, cooking food and just being together with family in the open great-room and out on the deck watching the water.

This is an excerpt from one of our adoption referral letters written by our good friend, "Shelley", who has known us both since before we were married and has known Bob since they were in grade school together. Shelley is married to Bob's best friend, Steve, who is Samuel's godfather.

. . .

Bob and Nancy have very strong family values, and they portray these strong values by the way they live. They have been committed to each other for many years in a marriage built on love and respect, and they share that love and respect with family and friends. They spend many of their weekends and all of their holidays playing cards with grandparents, board games with family and friends, or just getting together to really enjoy each other’s company, to talk and listen to each other, to support one another. While these are all wonderful character traits, the next is my favorite.

Bob and Nancy are very attentive to and interested in children’s lives. I have witnessed their behavior with my own children. Every time Bob and Nancy are around my children, they always make time to ask them how they are doing, how school is going and what sports/activities are they involved in. Bob and Nancy always compliment me on my children, and I am mentioning this for a very important reason. While I know that they share my excitement in my children’s accomplishments, their compliments are always about how respectful and well behaved my children are. They truly see the importance of raising a child to feel loved, to feel safe and to be kind and respectful to others.

I know that Bob and Nancy are wonderful parents. Their family values are exceptional; their feelings are sincere; the love they have to share with another child is infinite. This child will be as lucky to have them as parents as they would be to have him or her as their own.

. . .

Sincerely,

Michelle M.

Our profile finally goes live today. Yeah! We are excited and nervous. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

This is a picture of us arriving at the San Diego airport late last summer. Sam was tired from the flight and felt much better after his nap.

It rained today so we took Sam to an indoor playgroup/class called Gymboree. Sam always has fun there because there's lots of other kids his age and he can be very active. We sing songs, play make believe, and chase bubbles with the teacher. He also likes to explore the kiddie tunnels and climb slides and catwalks. I like how the equipment is re-arranged each week so he doesn't get bored.

We took Sam to see "Elmo Makes Music" today. He was amazed seeing Elmo in person and said "more Elmo" whenever Elmo wasn't on the stage. We love sharing this time with Sam and look forward to sharing it with another child too.

The weather is getting warmer and Sam asks to go to the PARK PARK PARK every day! I try to take him if it's not raining. This picture is actually from late last summer at Brookfield Zoo. I didn't have my camera with me today. Sam STILL loves the slide and cried today when it was time to go home. We are looking foward to this summer and have lots of acivities planned.

We are waiting for our fingerprints to come back from the state to update our home study. It's already been a month. I can't imagine why it's taking so long.

If you watch CSI Miami, you know it only takes them 2 seconds to run fingerprints through their database!!! Maybe they should call them. ;-)

I've been thinking about traveling today. I must have Spring fever...
This is a picture of us on a tour through the Roman Colosseum a few years ago. It was amazing to see it and hear about the history. We don't have anything that old in America. I (Nancy) have a picture of my Dad standing in front of the Colosseum from many years ago so I thought it was really cool to see it too. We look forward to taking our children to Europe but we'll wait 'til they're older.

Happy Easter! Sam is really starting to understand about hunting for candy-filled Easter eggs at Grandma and Grandpa's house. His new favorite word is "CANDY" --- I think we're in trouble. :-)

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's hard to get Sam (1st on left) to sit still long enough to take a picture with his cousins --- he's always on the move! We celebrated St. Pat's with an annual dinner hosted by Nancy's sister Mary who just loves, in her words, "all things Irish." It's the one time each year we eat Irish soda bread (yum) with corned beef and cabbage --- I (Nancy) hated cabbage when I was little but I'll eat some now since it's a tradition. It is so nice to spend this time with family.

I can't believe it's already been 2 years since I (Nancy) took this picture with 3 month old Samuel. Today he is 27 months old. He has grown into a beautiful, good-natured boy. We're all looking forward to welcoming a new baby into our family. Samuel's gentle, happy nature tells us he will be a nurturing big brother.

Hello! Welcome to our journal... and Happy Valentine's Day!
We are excited to begin the adoption journey once again to welcome another baby into our happy family. We are getting our profile ready and updating our home study. God bless you for considering this loving, selfless option.
