Dan started on the Chicago-to-Mackinac sailing race today. He will be 1 of 9 people on the sailboat, racing it from Chicago to Mackinac Island, Michigan. Kathy, her mom, and Dan's mom went to Chicago's Navy Pier this morning, to watch the sailboats leave for the race. It was pouring rain, and we got soaking wet! Here is a picture of the sailboat Dan is on, heading out for the race. Dan is on the far right, under the red and white flag. He has his hand up, waving.

We love to watch the squirrels and birds that come to visit our backyard!

It's the Fourth of July, and we're having a barbecue at our house today. We've got the backyard and patio all set up for the party!

Here is Dan goofing around with the daughter of our good friends! :-)

Kathy loves reading with our niece!

Tonight we went with family to Ravinia, an outdoor music park where you can picnic and listen to a music concert under the stars. We packed up our picnic basket and had a great time!

We've had a great weekend working in our yard and garden. A few more flowers to plant, and we'll be done! :-)

Today we kicked off the summer with a family party in Wisconsin. Here we are with some of our nieces and nephews, down at the lake.

Dan loves working in the yard, and decided to plant some new bushes in our front yard--a hydrangea and several azaleas.

The Detroit Redwings are in the hockey playoffs, and Dan is so excited! Here he is cheering on the Wings with our niece, who is a big fan, too--she's got her Redwings onesie on for the big game! :-)

It's Memorial Day Weekend--time to work in the garden! Flowers, flowers, flowers--Kathy loves flowers!

Dan's grandma and her husband, who live in California, came to Chicago for a visit. We had a family party at our house while they were in town. Dan loves to grill, and he planned a menu of pork chops, chicken, marinated vegetables, and pears. Here he is at the grill, with his grandma looking on, supervising! :-)

Through our church, we participated in the CROP Walk, a 6-mile walk to raise money to fight hunger. The money we raised goes to both local food pantries and to international agencies to help people in need. Here we are with friends from our church at the CROP Walk (we are the 2 on the right).
