I've taught piano lessons since high school. I tried piano when I was 5, but I couldn't read and I argued with my mother about what to practice. When I restarted at age 12, I took to like a duck to water.
I wasn't a great practicer, though. And it's so hard to see kids struggle through practicing the same old books. So I started doing frequent "theme recitals". Every 3 months we have a cozy, casual, recital in our home, focused on something different. We did movie music (& some Youtube movie spoofs), Beethoven (with funny songs), accompanying singers (and the audience sang along), and in a month: music in minor keys for Halloween.
I'm really excited! I'd better go practice my song...

Here Dave poses before a 5K. Someone in the family has to be a runner, and it's not me.
I know this isn't REALLY related to the pic, but I thought I'd write about a typical day for us:
Dave likes to get up early to do 2 of the following: jog, do dishes, read scriptures, or try to get me out of bed to make something other than cereal to eat. We most always eat breakfast together.
Dave drives to work, M-F, 5 days a week, like he always wanted. I stay home, even though I could work a full-time job---we're happier this way, and I can volunteer in the community. Dave programs at his computer, orders parts, and assembles test equipment for an engine lab. Liz goes to tennis, teaches piano lessons, surfs the internet, and works on chores or church callings.
In the evening, we eat dinner together & talk, then sit on the couch to read or watch TV and rest. Then we do home improvement, go to church activities, shop, or watch a Netflix. We usually stay up til we're tired and have to put each other to bed. We are good friends and love being with each other.

For my birthdays, I'm starting to ask for "experiences" not stuff. I asked Dave if we could drive to Sanibel Island, which is the shell heaven of Florida. (My shell collection takes 5 shelves and is all labeled and organized.)
Dave made all the arrangments, and we enjoyed the bird sanctuary, the shell museum, and the hotel. However, midday was not a low tide, and it rained all afternoon. Oh well!
